Learning isolated vocabulary at an intermediate level is not just inefficient – it’s practically useless. Take a typical topic like “hotel”: textbooks happily teach you the word reservation, but never show you how to actually use it in real life. As a result, learners end up producing sentences like “I have a reservation under the name”, which is grammatically awkward and sounds unnatural to a native speaker. The correct, idiomatic phrase would be “I have a reservation under the name of…” or simply “I have a reservation under…” – something you only learn when you study whole expressions, not single words.This is exactly why traditional school methods fail: students spend 10 years memorizing lists of vocabulary and grammar rules, yet graduate unable to hold a basic conversation. They know the word reservation, but can’t check into a hotel without freezing. They know budget, but can’t say “I need to prepare the monthly budget” fluently. The problem isn’t the learners – it’s the method. Teaching words in isolation creates a false sense of progress while leaving students without the ready-made phrases they actually need to communicate.If the goal is real fluency, we need to stop treating vocabulary as a collection of disconnected items and start teaching language in chunks: collocations, fixed expressions, and full sentences that native speakers actually use. Anything less is just busywork that wastes time and kills motivation

Can someone tell me, how am I supposed to learn new languages? Like for example I want to learn Japanese. I don’t know how to read their alphabets, I don’t know how to say something in their language. How am I supposed to learn, when she’s not leaning me them, she just responds in Japanese, when I am writing to her in English or Polish. I hope someone tells me xd
