Name the song. Guess the year. Two music games for your TV, with phones as the remotes and an MC running the show. New songs every month.
A song starts. What year is it from? You guess, build your own timeline of cards and argue about decades. Two of you on the sofa or sixteen at a party.
The board sits on the TV and phones are the controllers. The first to fill their timeline wins.
HOW TO PLAY
1. Create a table in the app and you get a table code.
2. Put the board on your TV with Chromecast or in a browser at vinylo.tv/tv. A laptop works too.
3. Guests scan the QR code on the screen, type a name and take a selfie. Nothing to install.
4. One person is the DJ and plays the music from a phone or computer hooked up to a speaker.
5. Whoever's turn it is picks the spot on their timeline on their phone. The board reveals the year and the title.
THE MC
Runs the game like a game show: welcomes the guests, reads the rules, comments on every reveal and goes quiet while a song plays. The MC speaks English, Polish, German and Spanish in a natural-sounding TTS voice, and the words show up on the board as subtitles.
BLITZ
Once every round of turns, the whole table guesses the same song at once. Everyone sets the year on a slider and the closest guess takes the card.
THE CARD MOVES ON
After a miss, the card goes to the next person, who can still save it.
NAME THE SONG
A second game in the app. First you hear one second of the song, then 3, 7 and 15. Type the title and the artist. The less you hear, the more points you get.
NO TV? PLAY ANYWAY
At the lake, at a cabin, on a train. The host taps "Play without a TV" and the board, the scores and the music spread across everyone's phones.
YOUR SELFIE ON THE BOARD
When you join you take a selfie and can add glasses, a moustache, a hat or a crown. Your face shows up on your turn, in the Blitz and on the podium. The photo stays only in the table's memory and is gone when the table closes.
OVER 500 SONGS
Hits from several decades, film music, a big party mix and, in some countries, a local deck. We add new songs every month.
MUSIC FROM YOUTUBE
Songs play in the official YouTube player, from videos on artists' and labels' verified channels that allow embedding. The player stays visible the whole time on the device that plays the music. We put the decks together ourselves and check every song before it goes in. On the DJ’s device we recommend YouTube Premium, since without it YouTube may play ads between songs.
AT THE END
A podium, awards for hit streaks and the fastest answers, and a list of every song of the night.
THE HOST SETS UP THE GAME
- the goal of the game,
- time for a move,
- how often the Blitz comes up,
- whether a missed card moves on,
- who to remove or ban from the table.
FREE AND FULL VERSION
For free you play games of up to 4 cards with up to 4 people at the table, and 7 rounds of Name the song. The full version is a monthly subscription in the app: games of up to 20 cards, a table for up to 16 people and up to 20 rounds of Name the song. Only the person who creates the table pays; guests play for free. The subscription renews every month, and you can cancel it in your Apple Account settings.
The game runs over the internet, so guests' phones don't need to be on the same Wi-Fi. Only with Chromecast do the host's phone and the TV need to share a network.
