How to learn languages on Tandem:
1. Select the language(s) you want to learn in the app
2. Tell us about your language learning goals and your ideal Tandem partner
3. Search for native speakers of your target language in the community
4. Kick-off your language exchange experience by sending your first message
5. Share topics with the Tandem community so you can have meaningful conversations about what interests you
6. Keep up the conversation with your new Tandem “pen pal” and speak like a native in no time!
While many features are free, you can choose to subscribe to Tandem Pro to access all the features on the app. Your subscription will automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current payment period. Your iTunes account will be automatically charged at the same price for renewal within the 24-hour period prior to the end of the current payment period unless you change your subscription preferences in your Account Settings.

- Location information: Required to use the Nearby feature to see members near you, the Travel feature to show members around the world and to add an approximate location to your profile.
- Microphone: Required for sending audio messages, making audio and video calls, and joining Language Parties.
- Camera: Required for taking photos to upload to your profile or post in a Language Club, take and send a photo in a chat, video calling, and scanning QR codes.
- Notifications: Used to send you notifications about acceptance into the community, new messages, new followers and their posts, new references and marketing communication.
- Nearby devices: Bluetooth access is required to connect audio devices during a call or Language Party.
You can still use Tandem without granting optional permissions, except features where their nature requires the respective permission, like a video call requiring camera permission.

I've met a lot of cool people on this app. I have such close ties with a few of them that I've met them when I flew to their country. I highly recommend this app, but please be careful! I've met a pervert more than once, and when I did, I'd immediately block and report him, and then the Tandem app would take care of that person. If you want to find foreign friends or just brush up on a language, I highly recommend it!

The application itself can be good. I didn’t have time to understand. But what the owners of the application allow themselves is simply extremely outrageous! I didn’t do anything illegal, I didn’t violate the community rules. The messages I wrote to people were absolutely polite, ordinary, absolutely without any indecent subtext. Mostly bots wrote to me under the guise of girls from China. It was very annoying. I wrote to the moderator if it is possible to do something with bots. That moderation is apparently insufficient. I asked to do something about it. Literally today I opened the application and found that my account was deleted. I tried to log in to my account, but I came across the inscription that the account with such mail does not exist. Outrageous!
Language exchange - best way to master a language

In my opinion, idea of Tandem is the best approach to learn a foreign language. Here I have found many polite, fascinating and charming people, who just want to teach you their native language. Isn’t is amazing?! All the people I met were very communicative. No matter where are you from - in Tandem you’ll find a way to talk. I use it with duolingo and it works very well - I can master each new-learnt phrase In REAL dialogue with a REAL person. Genious.

The app itself and the idea is pretty great. But unfortunately the last situation I encountered made me really sad. I’ve had my account for more than 7 years - and yesterday it was taken over by some bot, my profile picture was changed to some woman’s picture, my name was suddenly in Chinese and my account was spamming some scam messages. I immediately wrote to the support about my account being stolen - I’ve described the whole situation, attached screenshots and what happened next? My account was deleted. Furthermore, after 28 hours I still haven’t received any kind of feedback from the support, but my account was deleted without any further explanation or notice.
Bye bye bugs! We have hunted down some bugs in this version to make it even better for you to easily connect with native speakers. Update to the latest version to get all new features and improvements!
