Remember Snake? The one you played under the desk, one thumb on the keypad, chasing a blinking dot until it all went wrong? That game. On your Mac. With googly eyes.
McSnake is a small, native macOS game that does one thing properly: classic Snake, at a pace just quick enough to be a problem.
FOUR SKINS. YOUR KIND OF SNAKE.
Keep it Classic, try the spotted Cow, stretch out with Giraffe, or take Chinese Dragon for a spin. Open the palette button, preview your favourite, and choose Put on. The rules stay the same.
GROW, DON'T CRASH
Steer with the arrow keys, eat the red apple, get longer. Every one is a point, a little more speed, and a little less room to move. Hit a wall or your own tail and it's game over. Press Return and go again. That's the whole game, and it's still exactly the right amount of game.
THREE KINDS OF APPLE
• Red — a point, a longer snake, and a permanently quicker tick
• Rotten — appears near your head, costs a point when you have one to lose, and leaves the snake reeling for two seconds
• Super — twelve seconds of protection: bounce off walls, cross your own body and move faster, with a rainbow aura around your chosen skin. Its pulse slows as protection runs out, and rotten apples cannot penalize you while it lasts.
SMALL TOUCHES EVERYWHERE
• The snake blinks, breathes, and looks where it's going
• Red and rainbow apples burst into confetti; rotten apples look and sound suitably sour
• Springy animations that keep pace with your display
• A short, satisfying sound on each bite — or silence, your call
SET UP HOW YOU LIKE IT
• Light and dark themes, switched right there in the window
• Sound on or off with one click
• Your best score is remembered between sessions
• Resize the window to suit your desk
KEYBOARD FIRST, LIKE A MAC APP SHOULD BE
Arrow keys to move. Space to pause. Return to restart. No menus to dig through, no tutorial to sit through, no "getting started" anything. Open it and you're playing.
QUIETLY WELL BEHAVED
McSnake is written in SwiftUI and runs entirely on your Mac. No account, no internet connection, no ads, no tracking, nothing collected. Launch it, play a round, close it. It's there when you want it and it never asks you for anything.
Available in English and Polish. Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later.
