StartStar on Apple Watch We are excited about the new version of the App running on the Apple Watch. The App on the watch can work both with the phone and without the phone. Lets take a look at the watch working with the phone: for best results, the Apple Watch app should be started and the app should be started on the phone. The Apple Watch displays the countdown timer, your boat speed and distance to the line. It also acts as a master controller for the phone starting and stopping the timer and the recording of the tracks so long as your phone is within Bluetooth reach of your phone. If in doubt trying the ’Ping Phone’ feature of your watch. Please note your phone must be in Bluetooth reach of your Watch to act as the master controller for the phone app.In this version of the software there can be a 2 second delay before the phone app receives, processes and starts the phone. This can lead to the phone timer lagging the watch by a short period. Something we seek to improve in the future. Alternatively StartStar on the watch can be used in standalone mode. The Apple Watch displays the countdown timer, your boat speed and distance to the line. It also acts as a master controller for the phone starting and stopping the timer and the recording of the tracks. Unfortunately the Apple Watch does not allow Apps to continuously record your GPS tracks in standalone mode. If you want this feature, we recommend the app also runs on a paired iPhone.

Bug fixes.

To enable pursuit races in some clubs which require countdown times which are not multiples on 1 minute, it is now possible to set the countdown timer to any value by running the countdown and then stop the countdown at the appropriate value. The sailor then start the countdown at the right point.

Bug fixes and enhancements We have been testing a new feature over the summer: to ensure your track is always recorded even if your phone battery runs out, StartStar now saves the track to permanent storage from the moment you press GO! If your phone battery runs out, you will still have a record of the voyage upto the point the battery ran out. If later you want to delete the track, go to the review tab, select your voyage and swipe to delete.

This release fixes a bug in the application which has restricted its use when the app is not the primary app on the screen or the screen has been turned off.

In this weeks update: an additional peak speed measurement over 15 seconds added to the voyage statistics plus various minor fixes and tweaks.

Bug fix release. The issue with the speech speed on IOS 9 has been addressed. Please use the Slider in the settings tab to adjust the speed to a comfortable rate.

There are 2 changes in this version. The calculation of peak speed has been changed - it now calculates the peak speed both over 5 seconds and over 30 seconds. We have also enabled you to change the unit of measurement when posting to Facebook, twitter, email,... you can now select between knots, miles per hour and kilometres per hour.

This version fixes a bug in the countdown 'SYNC" feature, which now synchronises the time to the nearest full minute counting downwards.
