A FLIGHT BRIEFING THAT STARTS WITH THE ANSWER • DECISION comes first, hazards right next to it — the verdict before the detail • TIMING shows departure, flight time and arrival with dates, and local time at each end the way a ticket reads: 0830L → 1036L • En-route alternates now appear across the whole briefing: weather, hazards, wind and runways • ALTERNATE LEGS gives distance and time from the nearest point of your route, not from the destination SIGMET: THE WEATHER BETWEEN AIRPORTS • METAR and TAF describe the ends of a flight. SIGMET describes what lies between — now in the briefing, above the airport summaries, as in an operational flight plan • Thunderstorm, turbulence, icing, volcanic ash, tropical cyclone and mountain wave, each with its layer • WX weather mode on the maps: set your flight level and zones you will not touch are dimmed, with their labels kept so you can decide whether to change level FLIGHT INIT: ENTER A FLIGHT IN ONE PLACE • Departure, destination, date, time, ground speed or flying time — one form • All alternates in one section: departure, destination and en-route, each with FIND for airports with live weather along your track • En-route alternates live in their own list and no longer overwrite destination alternates • CLR clears an airport field at once; a code that does not exist is marked UNKNOWN and is never saved • A reminder to set your own minima — the briefing verdict depends on them ROUTE BUILDER: DRAW A DETOUR AND SEE WHAT IT AVOIDS • Countries along the route in a column, and below the line the ones your detour now avoids • Close a country with its lock. NOTIFICATIONS THAT ACTUALLY MEAN SOMETHING • PilotDeck used to notify you on every new report — up to 86 a day per pilot. It now wakes you only when the weather has actually CHANGED • What counts as a change: flight category, windshear, thunderstorm or freezing precipitation, fog, low-visibility procedures, a runway turning slippery, a wind shift of 40° or 10 kt, gusts up, temperature closing on dew point, and an amended TAF • A routine report that repeats the previous one arrives silently and just refreshes the app — the weather you see is always current • Every notification now names the reason and shows the category with the standard aviation colour: green VFR, blue MVFR, red IFR, magenta LIFR • Two new sounds: a darker phrase when conditions worsen, a brighter one when they clear. You hear what happened before you read it ONE SCREEN FOR EVERY NOTIFICATION SETTING • Press and hold the ALERT key — everything about notifications is there • QUIET MODE — important changes only, or complete silence • Temporary modes: EVERY report for 3 hours before a departure, or silence for 8 hours between duties. ROUTE BUILDER — FLY AROUND CLOSED AIRSPACE • Draw your own route: tap ADD POINTS, then tap the map. Waypoints go in order, departure to destination, and the route follows them • The great-circle line stays on screen while you draw — you see exactly how much the detour costs, in miles and in minutes • Every country on your track is listed with distance, time and the moment you enter it. Tap a name to show the country on the map, tap the lock to block it and route around • The briefing now tells you when your track crosses restricted airspace, and offers to lay a route around it ALTERNATES — FOUND ALONG YOUR ROUTE, WITH LIVE WEATHER • Tap FIND ALT and PilotDeck searches 8,600 airports along your track — along the route you actually built, not a straight line • Three searches, because they are three different jobs: ENROUTE by corridor width, DEP ALT by the one-engine rule (one hour for twins, two hours for three or four engines), DEST ALT by a radius you set • Filter by what your aircraft needs: shortest usable runway, corridor width, OEI cruise speed, and your own ceiling and visibility minima • Every candidate carries a live METAR and the age of the report, listed in the order you will fly past them • One tap adds an airport as ALT 1 or ALT 2 — the briefing picks it up • The briefing now also says when a take-off alternate is required: it reads the departure TAF at your ETD and compares it with your minima BRIEFING — CLEARER AND FASTER • Reference rewritten: every key and all twelve sections explained, in six ICAO languages.
