Koala Chinese teaches Cantonese and Traditional Chinese in about 10 minutes a day, helping children and beginners recognize common characters and build reading, listening, and writing skills.

New in v1.7: Character Bingo
Children use pictures, characters, and audio clues to find answers on a 3×3 Bingo card and connect three spaces in a row. Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced levels progress from picture recognition to identifying characters and vocabulary by sound. Challenges earn eucalyptus leaves for the koala, while Review Mode lets children revisit today's words and hear them again. Bingo performance also helps Daily Challenge choose better review items.

• Built around Cantonese and Traditional Chinese
Every character, word, and example includes Hong Kong Cantonese and Mandarin audio, English explanations, and Jyutping. Switch the learning language to Mandarin or English for Mandarin-medium Chinese instruction, non-Chinese-speaking families, and other learning needs.
• Character Bingo
Progress through three levels from picture recognition to listening comprehension. Each level offers five games daily, followed by relaxed review. Bingo performance also helps Daily Challenge select useful review items.
• Daily four-item challenge
Each day introduces three single characters and one related vocabulary word, balancing new learning with review. Activities include flashcards, example sentences, writing practice, picture matching, and Fill in the Blank. A Sticker Book, 30-day progress calendar, and printable worksheets help children stay motivated and practice offline.
• Spoken and written example sentences
When available, example cards show both everyday spoken Cantonese and formal written Chinese, helping children understand how Chinese is spoken at home and written in books.
• Character and vocabulary flashcards
Children learn through lively cartoon illustrations covering people, nature, numbers, food, everyday objects, and Hong Kong culture themes. The app includes 400+ essential Chinese characters and vocabulary words, with more being added.
• Stroke-order writing practice
Follow animated stroke-order guides, based on Hong Kong's Primary School Chinese Character List, and practice writing with a finger or Apple Pencil. Adjustable playback speed lets younger learners slow the demonstration down and follow at their own pace.
• Creative drawing game
Children can practice writing, color, or draw freely. Drawings can be saved in the app and shared from the drawing gallery.
• Puzzle games
Hong Kong-themed and other picture puzzles help children build observation, patience, and problem-solving skills.
• Progress and parent tools
Track daily practice, XP, streaks, stickers, writing records, and other achievements. Parents can review progress and set play-time limits.
