故事的背景发生在烽火连天的南宋时期，在这个真实的历史背景下，引出了一幕幕武林的恩怨纷争。故事发生在南宋年间。公元1126年秋，金国大举入侵北宋，不久将徽宗、钦宗掠走，这就是历史上有名的“靖康之耻”；次年三月，宋徽宗第九子康王赵构在南京（今河南省商丘市）称帝，不久又迁居临安（今浙江省杭州市），依靠半壁江山，苟延残喘。幸得岳飞、韩世忠等爱国名将率部奋起反击、浴血奋战，南宋江山才得保全。罕为人知的是，在此期间亦有大批的江湖武林人士为了大宋王朝，抛头颅、洒热血，写下了可歌可泣的一页。公元1139年，金国宰相鞑懒被刺的消息传来……
