Calendar is a source. Connect the Calendar folder and every month becomes one Markdown file: a heading per day, and a line per event with its time, the calendar it came from and where it is. A repeating event is on every day it happens, not only the day it was made, because Exporter reads the occurrences Calendar keeps for its own views. It never asks for calendar access. The events are read from Calendar's own store through the folder you grant, not through EventKit, so no permission dialog appears and no other app's calendars are touched. A calendar is what you tick, and the picker groups them by account the way Calendar's sidebar does, so one untick can leave out a whole account. Scheduled reminders arrive unticked. They are already in the reminders export, and because a habit repeats daily each one would write the same line on every day of the month. Tick them on if you want them here. The card says how far back to read: this year, 2 years, 5 years or all. Calendar itself keeps about two years of occurrences, so that is what there is, and a narrower window makes a smaller first sync. An all-day event says "all day" rather than gaining a midnight it never had, and a trip that runs for a month is one line on the day it starts instead of thirty lines counting themselves down. The first 100 events are free. Reminders keeps its structure. A reminder due at a time now exports with that time: [due:: 2026-09-20T14:30]. One due on a day still writes the day alone, because Reminders keeps those apart and a reminder due "tomorrow" is not due at midnight. Files written before this keep working, both forms read back. A list's sections are headings. The reminders above all the sections stay at the top the way Reminders shows them, then one heading per section in the list's own order. A list with no sections reads exactly as before. A repeating reminder says so: [recurring:: daily], or [recurring:: every 2 weeks] when it skips periods. Every Reminders read now asks the database what it has before it asks for it. macOS renames and renumbers columns between releases, and one missing column used to fail the whole read, so a single rename could have taken the entire Reminders export down on a macOS nobody had tested yet. A column that is gone now costs that one field and nothing else.

Wallet is a source. Pick your Passes folder and every pass becomes one markdown file: a boarding pass with its route, gate, seat and confirmation, an event ticket with its venue and block, a store card with its stamps, each with the barcode's own number and the back of the card under its own heading. Wallet has no export of any kind, so this is the only way out. Passes that carry no date of their own, the older event tickets, are filed under the day the pass was signed, so a wallet sorts from the flight you took last week back to a conference in 2016. Pills show the flights, the events and the cards, and a pass is the tick. Your first 20 passes are free. A watched source no longer re-exports itself. Reading a database touches the shared-memory file beside it, and that file was being watched as though somebody else had written it, so a connected source could export itself in a loop: Contacts on some Macs ran a full export every five minutes. Every source now waits at least a minute between real-time runs, and keeps that floor for as long as it is connected.

Apple Notes highlights keep their color. Notes numbers its five highlight colors from one and Exporter counted from zero, so in HTML every highlight showed the color next to it, and a blue highlight was left out of both HTML and markdown. Markdown writes every highlight as ==text==. The app icon is a full tile on macOS 26 and later, like Notes and Reminders, instead of an object on a grey plate.

Claude Code is a source. Pick your .claude folder and every session becomes one markdown note: a paragraph per turn with the time and a block id to link to, tool calls folded to what they ran, edits as diffs, pasted images beside the note. The original log is copied next to it, so a session Claude Code deletes after thirty days is still yours. Pills show the recent, the busiest and the running sessions, a search field finds one by what you asked, and a session is the tick. Your first 50 sessions are free. Reminders is a source. Pick your Reminders folder and every list becomes one markdown file: a reminder per checkbox line with its due date, priority and a link back to Reminders, subtasks under their parent, completed reminders under their own heading, images beside them. Pills show every list, the shared ones, or the ones that changed last, and a list is the tick. Your first 100 reminders are free. Every card offers open in wander when Wander is on your Mac, beside open in obsidian when Obsidian is, and neither button appears for an app that is not installed. A card that is still reading its source shows a spinner instead of "nothing yet". Screen Time could say it had no days for ten seconds while its header counted 29, because one read that landed while macOS was writing the database was remembered as empty. Contacts and Messages had the same gap, and a source you connect from its card now lists its items at once. A database that could not be read for one moment no longer marks the run as failed. Screen Time, Contacts and Reminders read again after a second, and only a second failure is reported. The rows on every card have the same air above and below them, whether a sync is running or not, and the footer names the lowest unlock price when the apps still locked differ.

Setting up an app takes one line now: three numbered steps, the name of the step you are on, and the one button to press, with an (i) that explains it. Each card's header says what the free allowance covers and when it last synced, one "saves to" line holds the export folder and the format, the count of what is selected sits beside "deselect all", "organize files" shows where the files land, and every list ends on a whole row. A card you connect stays where it is until the next launch. Apple Notes files carry lean front matter now: the title, the id, the created and modified dates, the link back to Apple Notes, the cover and the links in the note. Aliases, the folder path, word count, reading time and the checklist and attachment counts are gone. They were worked out from the note, so every edit rewrote the file. A Dataview query or a Bases view that reads word_count, reading_time, folder_path, aliases or the counts needs changing. The app is Exporter.app now, and its command line is called exporter. Copy the install command from the Command Line card once more: after that both exporter and the old name notes-exporter work, and the command finds the app by itself, so moving the app later will not break it. On the command line, exporter export --source contacts now follows the layout set on the Contacts card, and doctor checks Documents and Logseq too. Exporter has its own website, exporter.dev, with docs for every app and guides for Obsidian, backups and Claude, in 20 languages. Help links there instead of carrying its own pages. Apple Notes and Contacts have an "organize files" setting: Apple Notes by folder, by tag or by smart folder, Contacts in one folder, by group or by company. It starts as the layout you have today, so nothing moves; after a change the card says the next sync moves the files. The small buttons under it only filter the list. A full resync removes only the files Exporter wrote, then writes everything again. Anything else in the export folder stays: your own notes, a vault's .obsidian folder, the documents a Documents export reads from. An export that reads nothing, because a database cannot be opened or a folder is not mounted, no longer empties its export folder, and files that did not change are left alone on every sync. The Documents source folder can no longer be the export folder or sit inside it, and the other way round. Two files whose names differ only in capital letters, like Report.pdf and report.docx, each get their own file. Two Bear notes with the same title under one tag each get their own file, and a Bear note you delete, rename or retag loses its old file on the next sync. Logseq pages you delete or rename lose theirs the same way. Unlocking Messages exports every conversation on the next sync, without a full resync. Sync now waits until your messages are indexed and then runs, where before it could wait forever; names still being matched to contacts fill in on the next sync. The conversation count matches the list. The MCP card says which export folders agents can see, and its Claude Code button copies the command that adds the server. Settings unlocks Screen Time and Documents too, the footer names each app's own free limit, and the card that asks for a rating also takes an issue, an idea or a question. German reads formal throughout. Your 50 most recent conversations now export free, up from 10.

Every source card now shows how far it is from its first export, one step at a time. The card that still needs something from you says what it is, and a card you have already synced stops showing steps at all. Folded up, a card that is not set up says where it is: step 1 of 3. Any file in the Documents list can now be converted on its own. Hover a row and a button at its right converts just that document, so a folder of papers can be dipped into rather than synced whole. It counts against the same free allowance a sync does, and at the free limit the row shows a lock instead of starting a run. A note that Apple Notes was in the middle of rewriting no longer counts as a failure. While iCloud settles, Apple Notes can rewrite a note underneath the export, so the same note could fail one minute and export perfectly ten minutes later. Notes Exporter reads such a note a second time before reporting anything, and the message tells you what happened instead of naming the part of the file it could not read. Notes Exporter now speaks Dutch and Greek, which takes it to nineteen languages besides English. What's new in the About page is in your own language too, and so is the last export message that was still English.

Smart folders from Apple Notes now have a tab of their own, beside Folders and Tags. A smart folder is a saved search, so its notes are worked out fresh on every sync rather than read from a list. If a smart folder uses a rule this version cannot read, it says so instead of exporting the wrong notes. Notes Exporter has a new source: Documents. Point it at a folder and it turns Word, PowerPoint, Excel, OpenDocument, RTF, EPUB, CSV and PDF files into markdown. Every other source reads an Apple app. This one reads a folder you pick, so it works on files you got from anyone. Conversion happens entirely on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded, including scanned pages, which are read with Apple's own text recognition. A source can write more than one format at once. The format row is checkboxes now, so your notes can land as markdown for your vault and HTML for the web out of one sync, side by side in the same folder. Contacts groups were showing every card in an account instead of the groups you made, which made the tab useless. Groups and Companies are trees now, like folders, and each one exports into its own folder: groups/Family/ada.md. People in no group, and cards with no company, get a folder of their own rather than disappearing. Also in this release: an About page reachable from the app menu, the heart in the footer, or its own tab. And the folder you pick for exports is now the folder your files land in, rather than a subfolder inside it. Connecting Apple Notes is simpler. The panel already opens on the folder the app needs, and the wrong folder can no longer be picked by mistake. If you close the panel, the card tells you how to get back to it instead of leaving you guessing.

Every source now has tabs, not just Apple Notes. Bear adds Recent, Pinned, Archived and Files beside its tags. Messages splits People from Groups and can show only what you have not read. Contacts gains Groups and Companies. Screen Time gets a list of days for the first time, so the ten free days are ten days you chose rather than ten the app picked for you. Sort by Busiest to find the ones worth keeping. Nothing exports until you ask it to. Connecting a source and choosing a folder no longer starts a sync on its own, and real-time sync begins only after your first manual sync of that source. Notes Exporter now also speaks Czech, Ukrainian, Polish, Romanian, Vietnamese and Hungarian.

Notes Exporter now speaks German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, Arabic and Traditional Chinese, on top of the languages it already had. It follows your Mac's language automatically, and you can pick another one from the footer or in Settings. Four new ways to find a note: Shared, Pinned, Recent and Popular sit next to Folders and Tags. Popular ranks by how often you actually open a note. Setting up is guided now: the welcome card walks you through connecting, choosing where the files go, and the first sync, one step at a time. Nothing exports until you ask it to, so your free notes stay yours to spend.

Notes Exporter now speaks Japanese, French, Simplified Chinese and Korean. It follows your Mac's language automatically, and you can pick another one from the footer or in Settings. A new welcome screen on first launch explains what the app does, what is free, and what the one-time unlock costs. Small fixes across the source cards.

Fixed a crash when opening a folder in the notes list. If the app quit on you while you were browsing folders, that is gone. Prices now appear in your own currency. Notes Exporter is also considerably cheaper in many countries: Apple's automatic conversion had been charging some regions more than customers in the United States pay, and that is now corrected. The notes list no longer stalls while Apple Notes is syncing in the background.

Pick your conversations: the Messages card now lists every conversation with a checkbox — untick the ones you don't want exported. New conversations stay selected by default, and skipping a conversation never costs you a free slot. Message sync is much faster: photos convert on all cores and the next conversation loads while the current one is written. The free counter now ticks live during a sync. Fixed: on some Macs the app showed 0 Apple Notes even though Notes was full — a quirk in long-lived Notes libraries. This update reads them correctly. New: notes database diagnostics in Settings shows whether the app can read your Notes library, and problem reports now include that summary automatically — so if something is wrong, one report is enough.

New source: Messages. Every conversation becomes one markdown file — a heading per day, who said what and when, reactions netted onto the message they belong to, edited messages with their earlier versions kept as footnotes, replies as real links, and the photos and videos people sent copied out next to the text (iPhone HEIC photos are converted so they actually display). Connect Contacts too and the two link up: a chat links to the person's card, and their card lists the conversations you have with them. Your 10 most recent conversations are free; all of them for a one-time $4.99. Notes Exporter now keeps a local index of everything you've connected, which is what makes a sync touch only the conversations that changed — and it lets the built-in MCP server's search find a person by name across your notes, contacts and chats at once.

New source: Contacts. Every card becomes a markdown file — name, phones, emails, addresses, birthdays, social profiles, relationships and groups as properties, the note as the body — and stays in sync as you edit in Contacts. Files land next to your notes, so Obsidian, Dataview and the built-in MCP server see people and notes together. 100 contacts free, all of them for a one-time $4.99. Also: the command line learned --source contacts, connected sources sort to the top, and the export log shows every source.

Fixed: exporting by tag now keeps your selection. Previously a full resync could silently change which tags were selected — the tags you picked are now remembered correctly across syncs. Anonymous, opt-out usage stats (Settings) help us improve the app. We count which features are used and roughly how big libraries are — never your note content, titles, or paths. Turn it off any time.

Readable in dark mode. Links, status text and every accent colour now adapt to light and dark instead of staying a light-mode blue on a dark background. Contrast is checked automatically on every build, so it can't drift back. A bigger, clearer window. Text is larger throughout, the window is wider, and you can resize it: long folder names and export paths no longer cut off mid-word. Cleaner typography. The monospaced face is now used only where it earns it: counts, dates, file paths and commands. Everything else reads in the system font. One obvious action per source. "Sync now" is a proper primary button instead of one of six identical buttons, with the quieter actions grouped beneath it. The free tier says what it means. You can see how many of your 100 free notes are used, and it now states plainly that your first 100 notes keep re-syncing free forever: only new notes beyond 100 need the one-time unlock. Release notes on the main screen. Subscribe to occasional release notes and tips from the home screen, double opt-in, unsubscribe anytime. Tidier note rows. Each note has a single link that opens it in Apple Notes; reveal in Finder and open the exported file moved to the right-click menu. Thin scrollbars. Scroll handles no longer sit on a grey track, including when macOS is set to always show scroll bars. Fixed: Notes Exporter no longer writes file paths to the system console, and no longer leaves a debug file in your Documents folder when exporting a note containing a table.

- Exports launched from cron, Carbon Copy Cloner or any root-owned automation now stay attached and return the real exit code. macOS was suspending the export when no desktop session was present, and the caller read that as the command finishing while the export was still writing - Attachment filenames no longer change between exports. When two attachments in one folder share a name, the suffix is now decided up front and stays the same every run, so backup tools stop recopying hundreds of megabytes of identical files - One run log per export, written in the folder that run actually wrote to. The duplicate copy that used to land in your configured sync folder is gone, and the export log still reads every folder the app knows about - Your export folder is now a mirror of your notes instead of a pile that only grows. Files whose note was deleted, renamed or moved away are removed, tracked by a manifest so nothing the app did not write is ever touched. This update fixes the command line tool and makes the app easier to troubleshoot. Command line • Fixed: the installed notes-exporter command showed "not connected" even when your sources were connected in the app. If you installed the command in 3.7, copy the install command from the Command Line card once more to fix it. • Running notes-exporter with no arguments now shows usage help instead of failing. • New: notes-exporter report — prints a diagnostic summary (app state, recent exports, last crash) and copies it to the clipboard. Add --send to deliver it straight to us. Menu bar mode • Fixed: the app could quit on its own after launching in menu bar mode or after clicking the menu bar icon.
