Highly reliable, but lacks some stuff
Saberrr17
Speaking from the pov of a current hobbyist illustrator, that focuses mainly on Japanese anime styles and working towards freelancing in gaming companies. I’ve been working with procreate for 1 year now, mainly due to its low cost and not requiring subscription, (compared to CSP and Photoshop CC, which are too costly currently). At the start, i found procreate to be extremely simple and comfortable to navigate and draw with, however, after going into more advanced techniques and stuff, i found some difficulties in getting the desired details i wanted. Examples like the lack of a refined selection tool as compared to CSP which i have tried before. Of course, both softwares has its up and downs. To summarize, Procreate is amazing for beginner artists to amateurs (maybe for certain professionals also). But with my current status, it lacks certain functions found in other popular illustration softwares.

Hey there - thanks for leaving us a review and for your feedback! We’ve added your vote of support for more Selection tools. We'd be happy to take on any feedback for Illustration tools you'd like to see as well - just let us know! 🫶
really good drawing/notetaking app!

i've been using procreate for about 4-5 years now, and i love how clean/minimalistic the UI is! it's a great drawing/digital art app, and it's been updated over the years and now it has a ton to offer, and pretty much everything i could ask for. i've tried out many other drawing software/programmes over the years, and i can say that procreate really is one of the (if not THE most) worth it for the price. i particularly love the replay system, which lets you see a timelapse of every single piece you make! i use procreate for notetaking, sketching project outlines and also for digital art. it does every single task well, and there's a ton of options for customization that make it even more versatile. the community is also great, there's tons of resources from brushes to tutorials and canvases/textures, and a lot of it is free! it's the only app i would recommend for anyone interested in digital art, and i'm honestly looking forward to see what they add next! especially interested in the 3d aspect - procreate allows colouring 3d models, but something like blender's greasepencil where you can draw 2d stuff in a 3d plane would be really awesome, but that's probably a lot to ask.
Developer Response
Hey ✨The Ninja✨ - Thank you for taking the time to leave a lovely review. We appreciate how detailed it is. The Time-lapses are super handy and really fun for looking back at what you have created and the process you have taken. We haven't got any immediate plans to add 3D modelling into Procreate, but it's a really fun idea.
What the heck is going on

I noticed the new update allows you to have more layers at a higher DPI which is great. However, after working on a drawing for 2 days and trying to adjust the layers/groups to the centre of the canvas, the app starts to hang AND shifts entire layers out of place, even when they were not selected or whatever. Had to close the app a couple times and try again but it doesn’t save my progress, hanging, and doing the same thing. I’m so afraid my work which is almost complete will be lost. Also, previously I feedback that if you want to save your files as a TIFF it does not save it with a transparent background like a PNG. Developer responded asking me if I saved it as a file… obviously I did because I needed it to be high quality to print it from a computer?? Even an amateur designer would know to save it as a file not to the camera roll if you’re doing professional work. Have not tried saving it as a TIFF since but hopefully it works now.
Developer Response
Edited 6/1: Hey there - we often provide this advice (re saving to Files) because many users don't know about the Camera Roll limitations. We haven't had reports of TIFF transparency issues lately, so this could be an isolated case. Are you possibly using an alternative Colour Profile? This could be contributing to the issue.Hi NJ8789 – Installing the Procreate 5.3 update will cause all default brushes to be reset, there isn't a way to avoid this from happening. All brushes required a reset due to the changes we made in the update to allow for the new hover feature, which is available on the M2 iPad Pro models. The layer limits in Procreate exist to prevent Procreate from crashing if it tries to do more than your iPad can handle. These limits vary according to your canvas size and iPad model.Try saving your artwork as a TIFF to Files app instead of Photos app. Does this retain the transparency of your artwork? 🧡
OK. We went too far. This update sharpens the corners of your Gallery thumbnails. It also calms down the height of Animation and Page Assist and fixes an issue in 3D painting where you couldn't import meshes without normals.
Remember that all your custom brushes are available in the Classic Library by pinching the brush panel, or tapping the Procreate Library title.
