ALL YOUR READING IN ONE PLACE

Stop juggling half a dozen reading apps. Reader brings all your content into one place including:

• Web articles
• Email newsletters
• RSS feeds
• Twitter threads
• PDFs
• EPUBs

You can even import your existing library from Pocket and Instapaper and RSS feeds from Feedly, Inoreader, Feedbin, etc.

POWERFUL HIGHLIGHTING FOR POWER READERS

We believe that annotations are the key to getting more out of what you read. So we’ve developed highlighting as a first-class feature inside Reader. Highlight images, links, rich text, and more. On any device.

READER WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU READ

We’ve reinvented the digital reading experience to apply the power of software to the printed word. This includes TEXT-TO-SPEECH (listen to any document narrated with the lifelike voice of a real human), GHOSTREADER (your integrated copilot of reading enabling you to ask questions, define terms, simplify complex language, and more), and FULL-TEXT SEARCH (find whatever you’re looking for, even if you only remember a single word).

FLEXIBLE SOFTWARE TO FIT YOUR UNIQUE NEEDS

Your personal interests, your professional projects, your way of doing things — they’re unique. Reader is your home base for the varied documents in your life, customizable to match the way your brain works.

PDFs for work, articles for your newsletter, and ebooks for pleasure all live comfortably side-by-side. No more juggling dozens of apps.

INTEGRATED WITH YOUR FAVORITE TOOLS

Your annotations should flow effortlessly from your reading app into your writing tool of choice. Instead you waste hours reformatting, reorganizing, and repeating. Reader eliminates this hassle. Reader seamlessly connects to Readwise which exports to Obsidian, Notion, Roam Research, Evernote, Logseq, and more

READ ANYWHERE, ANYTIME

Access all of your content from any of your devices with everything in sync. Even offline. Reader syncs across all platforms, including a powerful, local-first web app and iOS. You can even highlight the open web with the Reader browser extensions.

What’s New

Version 7.13

This build has our full ePubs v2 feature -- 10x+ better performance on books, a dedicated long-form reading UI, and so much more. Our goal is to have Reader be the best app in the world for reading books (in addition to other formats), and this project is a big step towards that :)

Previously:

This version has improved displays, better advancing, highlight fixes & more!

Improved TTS Experience — Andrew fixed a bug where skipping 15 seconds at the end returned the audio to the beginning and pausing caused flickering. Artem replaced newlines with spaces to prevent problematic pauses.

Fixed PDF Highlights — You can now properly delete PDF highlights on mobile, thanks to Arek fixing a bug that made highlights silently duplicate.

Fixed Animation Display — Thanks to Artem, more page animations can be disabled.

Fixed Highlight Handles — Highlights now have complete handles and proper underlines, thanks to Artem's tweaks.

Fixed Category Logic — Tadek fixed a minor bug in the category logic for Reader, which in some rare cases could lead to documents not parsing properly.

Fixed Auto-Advance — On web, deleting the current document or using the shortlist keybinding now properly advances to the next document when auto-advance is on, thanks to Scott. (This fix will be coming to the mobile app soon.)

Fixed Image Viewing — Image data is now properly reset when images are closed, thanks to Andrew. Now, gestures like zooming and changing positions will not affect the next image.

iOS Custom Icons — Arek added new iOS 18 icons, enabling improved dark mode and tint mode variants for a gorgeous monochrome home screen. Navigate to Account → Change Icon to check out the options!

Better TTS Voices — Try out the new (v8 beta) voices for Text to Speech which are the most lifelike yet! These voices should now be the default in Reader if you haven't selected your own preferred voice. We also fixed crackling/distortion in the new voices.

Improved Performance — We updated one of the core libraries that Reader is built on, which has made the app measurably faster! Johannes made some speed improvements to scrolling, so navigating your your document lists should feel much smoother now. Artem also removed some code that could prevent documents from loading in some rare cases.

Improved Youtube viewing — We improved the transcript tracking/autoscrolling for youtube videos, and now automatically enhance the transcripts for most videos so they're easily highlightable. You will see a much clearer error message when viewing YouTube videos while offline.

Summaries in List View — We now display the summary and document title/favicon in the mobile actions sheet: just long press any document in a list to get a quick peak at a document's summary without having to open it.

UI Improvements — The front matter (top header, buttons, etc) in the document view got a big redesign, with the summary showing in a toggle view above the document content. It’s now easier to start TTS from anywhere within the document — check out the new play button in the top right. The option to change appearance is now in the bottom sheet. Excessively long metadata is now truncated, Ghostreader summaries can be about twice as long, and emails look a lot nicer in the Daily Digest.

Discover Documents — Mati built an easy way to bulk add some of Reader’s most popular documents directly to your account, hand-curated by our Wisereads editor Abi.

Export Everything — Thanks to Piotr, Reader's "Export PDFs and EPUBs" feature has been reworked to "Export full files and articles" which not only exports your uploaded files but also all of your Reader document HTMLs.

So many bug fixes — to tags, the Omnivore import, Youtube AI transcript enhancement, ghostreader summaries, loading states (no more flickering when new documents are imported), progress bars, text-to-speech, and more!

It work well initially

I initially had no problems with this app. However, recently, whenever I want to save an article to Reader, it lags and has difficulty doing so.
