Serious issue with the latest update

All my past issues downloaded dated back for years are no longer accessible through the app! They are lost in the storage of my iPad although still taking up the same space. The downloaded folder of the app is blank, showing no issue was ever downloaded but the storage in setting reported the app still takes up 12 Gb of space just the same as before updating! Now I lost all the issues downloaded, and have to re-download them again, using up more storage space unnecessarily and some of past issues are also no longer available for download. This is ridiculous. How could the app update be released with such serious bug??!!

Not only is Scientific American refused to acknowledge the problem and help, they just eventually rudely ignored my emails after several exchanges.

And worse of all, the newly updated app is flawed that some issues failed to download properly leaving many pages blank with error message asking subscriber to update the edition, but leaving a subscriber completely helpless as there is no way to activate any update at all! Frustrating and now considering cancelling my subscription!
