A Mortician's Tale
A story about death and life
One of the first things you do in A Mortician’s Tale is prepare a corpse for a closed-casket service. As new funeral director Charlie, you’ll swipe a sponge over the body to remove any blemishes.
This simple task is soon followed by more complex procedures—from embalming to cremation—commonly used to ready the recently deceased for their final journey. Massage rigor mortis from bodies before using various tubes and tools to inject embalming fluid, or (gulp) break down bone fragments in a cremulator machine.
But A Mortician’s Tale is much more than a series of morbid mini-games. When not prepping the dead, Charlie exchanges emails with her coworkers and friends, comforts mourners during viewings, and navigates an awkward transition from family-run-business employee to corporate purveyor of death.
In these interactions, the game offers an intriguing look at a little-understood industry. You’ll learn about different cultures’ funereal customs and the effects of embalming chemicals on the environment. You’ll also discover different ways mourners express grief.
Whether you’re deeply curious about what goes on behind the scenes at a morgue or just wonder if undertakers gossip about their bosses like the rest of us (they do), A Mortician’s Tale breathes fresh life into the business of death.
