Search is back in the CarPlay tab bar. The magnifier at the right end of the bar opens the keyboard with one tap, and the last results stay under it. The tab steps aside in cars that block the keyboard while you drive. The CarPlay Home tab shows your recently played stations as artwork cards, and Favorites shows your stations the same way, with the same logos you see on the phone. The Preset View grid and the Now Playing row are gone; the player button at the right of the bar opens the player. Siri now knows your stations. Say "Hey Siri, play Radio Paradise on Macdio" and it starts, with no question asked, on the phone, with AirPods and from the voice button in the car. Siri learns your favorites and recently played stations, short names included ("BBC 1" for BBC Radio 1). The phrases, in 14 languages: • Play [station] on Macdio • Listen to [station] with Macdio • Tune to [station] on Macdio • Play my favorites on Macdio • Play my first favorite on Macdio • Play my favorite stations on Macdio • Resume Macdio, Open Macdio, Start Macdio • Stop Macdio, Pause Macdio, Stop radio on Macdio The new Siri section in Settings shows every phrase in your language, with your own first favorite as the example. On iOS 27 Siri can also find stations you never played in the directory. Auto-Play on Launch no longer starts the radio when a Bluetooth car stereo wakes the app in the background, and never over another app that is already playing. Opening Macdio yourself works as before, including from a Shortcuts automation. On iOS 27 Macdio uses the new audio session messages to notice phone calls and Siri, and to come back afterwards. Thank you, Mark, for spotting the change early. Quieter iCloud. Refreshing the station directory no longer marks every station as changed, so the app stops uploading hundreds of unchanged stations and refreshing itself for nothing after every launch. Fewer background terminations while iCloud is saving. The app now keeps running for as long as iOS actually allows instead of letting go after a fixed 28 seconds. Recordings were always the original stream, byte for byte. The quality picker in Settings suggested otherwise and is gone.

CarPlay now has search. Type a station name on the car keyboard and play it straight from the results. The search tab hides itself in cars that block the keyboard while you drive. A record button sits next to the heart and the star on the CarPlay player, so you can capture what you are hearing without touching your phone. Hearting a song in CarPlay now loves it in your Apple Music library too, the way it always did on the phone. Before, it did nothing. CarPlay says Connecting while a station loads, instead of showing a play button and an empty frame. The Now Playing screen in CarPlay keeps your recently played list. It used to wipe it the moment artwork arrived. Playback no longer dies after a phone call or a Siri request. iOS sometimes forgets to say that an interruption ended, and the radio would sit silent until you opened the app. It now checks the audio session itself and starts again. Pulling your headphones out no longer restarts the radio on the phone speaker a few seconds later. Songs whose titles use a long dash are saved with the artist and the title in the right fields, so they match in Apple Music. Every screen is translated now. Hundreds of labels and messages were still in English in all thirteen languages, including alarm, clock mode, recordings and settings. This release also carries everything from 2.7.1. Safety Buffer, a new setting in Playback. Off by default, so the radio starts instantly as before. Set it to a few seconds and Macdio plays that far behind live with the audio in hand, so a network drop shorter than that goes unheard: the app reconnects behind the buffer, skips what the station already sent, and you hear nothing. Adaptive Buffering grows it on its own after a stall. Song ID no longer rejects a correct match because the catalog title carries a remix or version tag. A quick bug fix release. Song titles and covers. After 2.7, on some stations the title still changed before or after the music: stations that report a wrong bitrate, and FLAC and Ogg stations. Macdio now counts the audio frames themselves instead of trusting any bitrate, so the title changes the moment you hear the new song, on every station and every device. Song ID at tune-in no longer gets stuck on Identifying. On FLAC and Ogg stations the cover now arrives with the song instead of about twenty seconds after it. FLAC stations that showed an impossible bitrate such as 48 kbps show the real one again. Quieter iCloud sync: the library no longer refreshes every second while it downloads. After a network change Macdio now reconnects once instead of twice, and pressing Play while it is still reconnecting restarts the connection instead of pausing it. Playback comes back after the network is lost. When Wi-Fi disappears with nothing to take over, in a lift for example, the radio stops. Once the connection returns, one press of Play on your headphones or on the Lock Screen brings it back. Before, that press did nothing and you had to open the app. Thank you, Mark, for the careful testing that led to this fix.

Live Pause. Pause a live station and pick up exactly where you left off. Press pause and Macdio keeps buffering the broadcast in memory; press play and the music continues from the second you stopped, not from wherever the station is now. A badge shows how far behind live you are, and a tap on GO LIVE catches you up. Off by default: switch it on in Settings > Live Pause. iOS puts a paused app to sleep after a short while in the background, so this is made for pauses while Macdio is on screen and for short interruptions such as a phone call, which no longer costs you the song. Your own station logos. Long press any station in Library and choose Station Logo: pick a picture from Photos or Files, or turn the logo off and get the Macdio tile instead. The choice shows in the player, on the Lock Screen, in the Dynamic Island and in the widgets, and it syncs through iCloud to your Mac and Apple TV. Song titles and covers arrive with the music. Many stations announce the next track up to a minute before you hear it, and Macdio used to show it right away. It now waits for the sound to catch up, on every station. Song ID no longer says Found while the cover is still on its way. Also in this release: Library > Sections: show, hide and reorder Recently Played, Favorites, your lists and the other sections. Stats > Top Stations > Show All lists every station you have played, not only the first five. Moving between Wi-Fi access points, or from Wi-Fi to cellular in the car, no longer leaves the stream silent. Macdio reconnects on its own. The Rec button is red and stays filled while a recording runs. Thank you. Nearly everything in this update came from your emails and forum posts. Macdio is the app it is because you keep telling me what to fix, and I read every message. And I have a big surprise waiting in Macdio 3. More on that soon.

Edit your stations from a real keyboard. Open Settings, tap Edit on Computer, and your iPhone puts a private editor on your own Wi-Fi. Type the address it shows into any browser, on a Mac, a PC or a tablet, enter the six digit code, and your custom stations open in a table you can actually work in. Rename them, drag them into the order you want, star your favourites, paste a stream address and test it on the spot, or let Macdio find the logo for you. Import and export JSON, CSV and M3U. The page comes from the phone itself, so nothing is uploaded to any server, and the editor shuts down the second you close the tab. Adding a station is easier too. Type a station's website into the stream field, tap Scan, and Macdio reads the site and lists every channel it carries, with a menu for the bitrate or the format you prefer. Hunting for a stream address is no longer part of the job. Also in this release: Your favourite stations keep their logos when you are offline. Discover can filter a country by genre or bitrate. Saving a song tells you right away whether it reached your Apple Music library, and the catalogue search finds far more songs than before. Song recognition is faster and more accurate, including FLAC and Ogg stations. CarPlay starts a station from the head unit reliably. Fewer background shutdowns, steadier album art, sharper station logos.

Song ID grew up in this release. I rebuilt the engine underneath it, and Auto Shazam is no longer experimental. - Stations that share their song inside the stream now show it instantly, no recognition needed. Many Opus and FLAC stations do, and Macdio finally listens to them - Song ID now works on FLAC and Opus stations, which never worked before - What the station says always wins: no more wrong song names or covers from a bad guess - The Lock Screen and CarPlay now always show the same correct song as the app, and synced lyrics line up more precisely - Recognition listens to the audio you already hear instead of opening a second connection, so it is faster and lighter on the network - Song info no longer vanishes mid-song - Tiny broken station logos are replaced with clean artwork - The layout now fits 4.7 inch iPhones (SE 2 and 3): the mini player no longer overlaps the tab bar and the player screen fits the display Thank you for every report you send. They shaped every fix in here.

Playback comes back on its own again. If a notification was read out loud, or Siri answered a question, or a call arrived, the station stopped and stayed silent until you pressed play. That is fixed. Macdio now returns to the station by itself as soon as the interruption is over, whether the app is open or in your pocket. This includes CarPlay: take a call in the car and the radio comes back when you hang up. Song ID reaches far more stations. Opus and Ogg stations can be identified now. They used to be skipped before a single second was ever listened to. Stations that announce a song as a file name are read properly instead of showing nothing at all. Stations that do not report their bitrate now get the full listening window, which makes a match much more likely. And when a song genuinely cannot be identified, Macdio tells you the real reason instead of always blaming the Shazam catalogue.

Macdio 2.1 is here, the biggest release I have ever built, and I built every part of it for you. Macdio is now a bedside clock radio, with an alarm that wakes you to your favourite station. - Wake up to radio: set an alarm in Clock Mode, with Snooze and Stop right on screen - Drag to reorder your stations, or sort instantly with A-Z - Control playback with an MFi or Bluetooth game controller - Search countries in your own language, accents included - Song ID protects real album art and recognises far more stations - Lyrics sync more accurately, with auto-scroll on by default Plus a wide round of speed, stability, and polish across the whole app.

My Lists has a fresh look. Your folders now show up as colourful cards, and you can give each one its own colour and a stylish icon from a bigger, refreshed set. My Stations and Favourites now expand right where they are, just like Recently Played, so there is no extra screen to open. Recordings can run up to 6 hours, so you can capture a full show in one go. With the new "Play as One Track" option in Settings, a recorded show plays from start to finish by default. Prefer song by song? Just turn it off. You can now swipe down to close the full player. We also fixed a rare crash that could close the app in the background, polished a few small Library details, and Apple Watch now starts up more smoothly.

Fixed an issue where tapping Show All in My Stations opened the wrong list. The Full Player now dismisses with a swipe down.

Every update I ship comes from real feedback. 1.0.6 is no exception. Auto-Play on Launch is here. Turn it on in Settings and Macdio picks up right where you left off, every time you open the app. CarPlay and Apple Watch included. The app is noticeably smoother now. I went through every screen, found what was causing the lag, and fixed it. Library, Full Player, Discover, and Stats are all more fluid. The heart button no longer glitches. Lyrics open and close cleanly. Shazam now works properly end to end. When a song gets identified, the artwork and metadata reach the widget, Lock Screen, and Dynamic Island straight away. You can now control how many stations appear in your Library. Set your own limits for Favourites and Recently Played in Settings. Recording playback gets skip buttons. Tap the 10-second forward or backward icons to jump within a recording, just like a podcast player. Sleep timer status now shows in the mini player bar.

v1.0.5: and this one is a big one. Macdio is now available in 14 languages. Arabic, Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Spanish, and Turkish, all fully translated, not auto-generated. If this is your first time seeing Macdio in your language, welcome. Recording now works for every stream format. MP3, AAC, FLAC, HLS — if the station streams it, Macdio records it. Previously, some formats recorded as empty files. That's fixed. Recordings also now include embedded metadata: song title, artist, album, artwork, and lyrics written directly into the file. Popular Near You got smarter. Stations are now ranked by real listening activity instead of accumulated historical votes, so what you see actually reflects what people in your area are listening to right now. CarPlay now loads up to 100 stations per genre and country category. The previous limit of 20 was too tight. Phone call and Siri interruptions now resume playback reliably when the call ends, whether you're listening through the speaker, headphones, or CarPlay. Enabling iCloud Sync no longer requires a restart. It just works immediately. On Apple Watch: browsing station lists is now smoother, and listening stats load faster even with large libraries. Thank you for using Macdio. Every update makes it a little more right.

This one's for everyone who reported issues. A lot got fixed. iCloud sync is now actually working. If you use Macdio on more than one device, your favorites, lists, and saved songs will follow you. There was a silent bug breaking it for a long time it's gone. CarPlay now has a preset layout. Your favorites show up as large buttons tap one to switch stations. No more digging through menus while driving. Searching for a station and trying to favorite it was broken it would show the wrong button or just not work. Fixed. The Apple Watch library is reorganized: favorites first, then lists, recent stations, and saved songs. Scrolling is smoother too. Pull down on the list to force a sync if something's taking a while to show up. A few more things: track queue is visible in the compact player, Recently Heard tracks have a ··· menu, media keys are more reliable, volume saves between sessions, widgets don't blank out anymore. Thanks for your patience with this one.
