Yep, that’s right. I’ve been using this credit card for years and never had a single issue. I typically just use it for small purchases, like getting gas. However, I was so excited about the prospect of this app and what it offers, that I thought “seems totally legit, I’ll just use my card to buy some credits”. But oh look at that, wouldn’t you know, about 3 or 4 weeks after using my card for iTalki, my bank notifies me of fraudulent activity and someone having attempted to use my card info to make $10,000 worth of purchases. Thankfully, my bank caught this immediately, cancelled my card, and issued me a new one. But man, that could have been really, really bad.
Other notes about the service;
1) Very few of the tutors are worthwhile. I attempted to contact nearly 30, only heard back from 4, and 3 of them were TERRIBLE.
2) The app itself isn’t setup very well and seems very counterintuitive in many ways. It also doesn’t refresh/update very often (even when you try to force it) so messages with tutors are delayed at least 15 minutes per message.
3) The iTalki classroom feature is garbage and it seems most people just agree on using different services, most of which are not recognized or natively offered through iTalki
4) Don’t forget, STOLEN CARD INFO immediately.

However please be advised that italki take extremely security measures to protect information we collect from you and only cooperate with reputable payment provider such as paypal or stripe. We have more than 10 million users using the payment service and never had any problems. We suggest you to review all your transactions in the past few months as well as your device environment to protect your information safety.

I use Italian to find a great online language teacher so that I can improve my speaking. italki does this very well. So many teachers to choose from and priced affordably. The app just works and you can even have your lesson on the app. My kids love their weekly Japanese lesson and are now able to have lessons without my supervision. If they are able to use the app intuitively, that says something about the app. It does what it’s supposed to.
