The Lost Books of the Bible and The Forgotten Books of Eden
The Lost Books of the Bible by Rutherford H. Platt, Jr., 1926
This is a collection of New Testament Apocrypha, including many works which were admired and read by the early Christians, but which were later excluded from the canonical Bible. It includes accounts of the young Jesus, particularly the Gospel of Mary and the Protevangelion, which provides additional folklore about the birth and youthful adventures of Jesus and which are missing now. Of note are the letters of Paul and Seneca, and the letters of Herod and Pilate, which are most likely a forgery, but add more depth to the question of the historicity of Jesus. There are also a number of non-canonical epistles, such as Laodiceans. Also worth a close read are the three books of the Shepherd of Hermas, which uses apocalyptic and symbolic imagery. This collection is an invaluable selection of portions of the New Testament which illustrates the fluid nature of the early Biblical canon, and provides access to all of the 'spare parts.'
The Forgotten Books of Eden by Rutherford H. Platt, Jr., 1926
This is a popularized translation of the OT pseudepigrapha, quasi-Biblical writings which never achieved canonical status (or inclusion in any of the official Apocrypha). This isn't to say that these documents are forgeries, just that for one reason or another they were not considered part of the Biblical text by the first millenium (C.E.) compilers. This book contains translations of all of the texts found in volume I of the weighty Oxford University Press Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha, without any of the apparatus.
You can find here for free such popular books as: The Apostles' Creed, The Shepherd of Hermas, The First Book of Adam and Eve, The Gospel of Nicodemus and many others books which are missing of the Bible!
I have downloaded a lot of books by this developer that I have found extremely helpful which is why I gave this app a five star rating. However, I am a little disappointed in this app because even though it has a no ads symbol displayed beside the menu there is a google ad at the bottom of the page that blocks the content. I clicked on the ad and indicated to google that it blocked the content and they said they would remove the ad. They just changed it to a different ad and moved it to the middle of the page. I deleted the app and reinstalled it and the ad is still there but it is back at the bottom. When I tried to contact the developer and report the issue, I found I would have to create an account and login before I could even report the issue. That is not going to happen, I have enough accounts and passwords to keep track of. So, just thought I would let other users know what to expect.
Can’t see Chapters in View
🍌🍯🥧
Have to swipe left or right to go on, okay. Can’t see in view which chapters to go to or check. You can do that when switched to Bible and clicking Table of Contents to scroll down to Enoch for example. That one has 105 chapters out of the 108 found in other apps. Not the biggest deal. While switching back to commentary to see the other Lost Books not on the ‘Switch to Bible’ part, you can’t see the contents of those. They could be missing some or may not be. Not making the assumption that they are missing chapters, just stating that it could and that I and others would know otherwise. Therefore, what I’m saying it that a way to see chapters in the ‘Switch to Commentary’ section of lost books, would benefit a lot. If someone already read the first 60 chapters and wants to skip to 61, they have to swipe 60 times? A simpler fix would help. Otherwise, app looks enjoyable. That’s the only issue. Especially when this app is veryyyy similar to ‘Book of Enoch’. Except that one has table of contents for the Book. Though that one only has one book, Enoch. Table of Contents for the Lost Books would help!!
Thank you
hrsmurfy
Thank you for making these books available for free. Every man and woman should have access to these to make their own decision on what is truth. They’re historical books and include more details and answer questions the Bible doesn’t have. Most of them complement the bible, not contradict. The day I finished reading The Lost Books of Enoch, I had a very vivid dream and saw Jesus. It was so beautiful. I also really love the books of Adam and Eve because they tell us more about the nature of the fall and what it was like before sin entered the world. A glimpse of what is to come for those who have a relationship with Jesus Christ when we are restored to our heavenly bodies.
Almost 5 stars
QueeninOnEm
I would give this 5 stars however there have been some issues with the app. I’m unable to change the version of the book that I’m in or even confirm the version of biblical teachings. It also allows me in settings toggle on audio and to even choose and audio voice and speed but it does not offer a play option while in the actual text. Other than that, I love having access to all of the lost books and I love being able to switch to commentary. The daily scriptures from the gospel, devotional, and psalms is also amazing! Overall great find, would be a dream if the issues I mentioned were addressed. P.s. nice touch with allowing me to choose my text font as well! I chose papyrus which gives a scroll feel and adds to my reading environment!
