I really like this app. It has a large collection of short articles on all sorts of subjects, organized by difficulty level. As you read the article, if you come across a word you don't know, click on it, the word will be pronounced for you and it will also tell you what it means. You can turn on 'sentence translation' so that after each sentence a translation is shown. You can also have a sentence or the entire article read out loud for you. As you read, you can save words for review later by clicking the 'dumbbell' icon (for 'training'!) You can also take a little quiz on each article, with the questions in the language you are learning, and multiple choice answers. There is also a grammar section associated with each article with explanations of grammar tips specific to that article. If you are looking to advance your reading, but other apps have started out too advanced, the A1 level (beginner) articles are pretty easy if you have basic language skills in your studied language. If you are total beginner, and are motivated to learn, you will probably progress, although other apps might get you started in a better way.

Better way to learn language

This app has a great approach to learning language. The short articles are a great way to get immersed in the language and the ability to highlight words in the articles and see their definition is SO helpful. I’m used to having to open another translation app when reading which has been inconvenient.2 things I would love to see in future iterations:1. Being able to more fluidly switch between languages. Right now, if I want to switch from French articles to Spanish articles, I have to go Settings and change my language.2. The quiz feature is great for learning comprehension, however there have been words in the questions that I don’t know that weren’t in the article either. I would love to be able to have the highlight word feature in the quiz questions, as well. For now, I have to reference another translation app.Ideal state for this app is to add in video entertainment and have it sectioned by language level as the articles are. Videos could be pre-existing series/movies in that language (dubbed or native). The video entertainment feature can be a tier subscription above just reading.

Good learning resource

Love that each article works as a quickly digestible, standalone unit with translations for each word, a quiz, keywords, and grammar points. Oftentimes words in the quiz questions & answers aren’t in the article itself, so I keep having to bounce out to a translation app in order to look things up - it would be nice if they were at least clickable for translation after answering. I’d also prefer the quiz to not automatically continue after an incorrect answer because I want to take a bit more time to reread the options in order to understand my mistake. The word training interface is quite nice with audio, sample sentence, and conjugations, but I’m finding that without the ability to edit & make notes about nuance, the words don’t stick the way they do in other flashcard apps.

Best Language Learning App

I have been looking for an app that offers a large library of graded reading, and this app is perfect. I get nothing out of apps that focus on memorizing random words/sentences and grammar drills. Having the content be in the form of short stories helps so much more to acquire the language in a way I can actually use it. Please don’t ever take this app down. I will mention: there is a UI issue I find frustrating. When I click on a level (like A1) and choose a story, when I get done and click back, the app takes me back to the Home Screen instead of where I was before. This means I have to click on A1 again, Hide Learned again, and scroll back down, which is annoying.
