The CCEL Devotional Bible consists of the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible, the American Standard Version (ASV) of the Bible, and three books of devotional readings from the Christian Classics Ethereal Library (www.ccel.org): The Imitation of Christ by Thomas a Kempis, Morning and Evening: Daily Readings by C.H. Spurgeon, and The Practice of the Presence of God: The Best Rule of Holy Life by Brother Lawrence. These books are time-tested classics with a proven ability to bring readers into the presence of God. The KJV Bible, ASV Bible, and the devotional books are completely searchable. This full-featured app includes five different font size options. Both portrait and landscape viewing modes are supported. The bookmarking capability includes the ability to organize your bookmarks within a book by reordering them. All these features and an exceptionally clean interface make both reading and browsing easy. Navigation of all the books is easy. You can scroll up and down within a section and swipe or tap to turn the page. All books are included in the original install, so an Internet connection is not required to use the application. Also look for the NRSV and NRSVA versions of this app, available in the App Store.

I’ve had this app for several years and ever since the last update I’ve wondered why the bookstore was removed. Now the app is not worth near as much, because you can’t expand your library. Love the website, but the app is now obsolete, and has been for three years since the update.

So as another reviewer said the app has changed so much to my dismay and I’ve lost so much of the works I’ve purchased due to the update, that a bitter taste has been left in my mouth. Please bring back the robustness and richness the app once had no matter the cost your loyal subscribers will buy.

As a student of theology I have been searching for a decent Bible appfor the iphone. There are of course several to choose from, but what Ilike the most about CCEL Bible (Free) is that it has a cleaninterface, is easy to navigate, and uses a serif font as the defaultfont. Once you start the app you are presented with a list of books (alibrary), and at the bottom there is a menu bar with the standardoptions. When choosing a book you are presented with the title page ofthe selected book, and after a second or so the option bar and titlebar “fade away” so you only have to page in view. The pages arecleanly formatted and are very easy and pleasant to read. As an iphoneapp it is very useful, and I keep it on my home screen for fast andeasy access.As a major pluss, the upcoming feature to download books from CCEL isperhaps what makes it the most promising of all the bible apps I haveseen so far, and it will without a doubt be my bible app of choice.

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon. - Updated for Apple's new devices - Fixed a bug where tapping on the book view screen would not show the toolbars again - Fixed a bug that prevented book cover images from displaying on iPhone 6 and 7 - Fixed a bug on the iPad where tapping on a book displayed a blank white screen - Fixed a crash on the iPad when going back to the library from a book - Removed the book store
