(Some other - payed - apps do too, but some apps advertised as "secure" really do not, and for example save your data using a simple base-64 encoding: your information looks scrambled, but is as readable as plain text when you know how).
▸ The Vault will - never - show ad banners! We hate them too.
▸ The Vault stores information on * your * device. Not on some server somewhere on the net.
▸ Securely storing information is as simple as entering free text!
▸ The Vault can securely store photos and pictures from your camera or photo library; for example a copy of your passport, credit card, or just the serial numbers of some equipment you own. Anything.

This is the part that matters.
This is the part that is hard to get right.
This is the part that makes the difference between actual security and insecurity.
Claiming “military-grade” (or “industry standard” ;-) encryption is meaningless.
Even claiming “256-bit AES encryption”, in itself is not very meaningful.
Example:
Claiming “military-grade” encryption and subsequently simply hashing a master passcode - e.g. using SHA, or MD5 is NOT good.
What ís good is to use a proper key derivation algorithm such as PBKDF2, scrypt or bcrypt.
Another example:
AES is better than older algorithms such as Blowfish, Twofish or 3DES.
But even for AES: an app that does not combine encryption with authentication... is doing it wrong. Currently there is some consensus that the best construct is to first encrypt a message and then calculate a message-authentication code, instead of the other way around.
These things matter.

The Vault uses PBKDF2 key derivation with an HMAC-SHA512 PRF, and HMAC-SHA256 Encrypt-then-MAC authenticated 256-bit AES encryption, using CommonCrypto functionality only. All cipher and MAC worker keys, as well as all salts and IVs, are purely random data. Keys and IVs are never reused. Each singular piece of data is encrypted with a unique random encryption key, and authenticated with a unique random HMAC key.
Your Master Passcode is never stored; and neither are the derived cipher keys.

more Seriously, I’ve had this free app since I bought my first iPhone many years ago. It’s never failed through every new iPhone and every update. It now offers many options for purchase to fit just about anyone’s needs. But it’s still totally free for very secure text storage. I started using this as a text based password saver. I’d enter the website, login and password and save it I to one document. This was way before any of the costly password savers were even available. It’s continues to work. Now days you can save pictures, files in different formats, just about anything that you need to hide from prying eyes. It’s fast, easy to use, and has the option to sync with your other devices! Including a Mac. I’m not sure about a windows PC, but I’m going to ask their support people who are very fast at answering any questions. They invite ideas to enhance the user experience. Honestly this is one of my top 20 favorite apps. You can purchase Add-ons to fit your needs and they are very reasonable. But it’s perfectly functional by itself, for free. Thanks guys for a great app I’ve used for about 10 years, give or take. Upon edit 7/5/18 For the people who are having trouble, it has to be user error or device error. This App works perfectly and has since it first came out. Over the years they have made many usable AND working updates. I’m just a customer but I suggest contacting support if you don’t know how to use the app. Customer service is excellent. Also, there’s no recurring fee to sync between devices. Perhaps best of all, look at the developer’s privacy policy. Unlike their competitors, they collect zero information. The Vault is mature and stable, with frequent updates and a quick response to any issues. New features are frequently added, which can result in a bit of a learning curve even for longtime users. For instance, I didn’t realize that you can swipe from right to left to reveal a masked credential, and vice-versa. You can backup manually on demand to Dropbox, iCloud, or Microsoft OneDrive. Or you can let the app manage backups for you automatically. The developers have gone a long way to make passwords secure and easy.

I've been using this app for a few years and it is a life saver!! One time I had an issue with the app, wrote an email for support and received an immediate response with specific step by step instructions as to how to resolve my issue. Keep up the good work and thanks for this app. One thing that is worth mentioning is that you MUST do backups frequently because there was a glitch with the iOS 18 update a few months ago and I lost all my data. I had not backup recently because my Dropbox was full and lost some data but was able to do a restore from a few months ago which was better than nothing. Now I backup weekly to my MacBook to be on the safe side.
