Background
Su’ifofoga Suamalie o le Tino e Tasi (Sweet Sounds of Tino e Tasi) was performed by the tamaiti and faia’oga of Tino e Tasi Preschool.
The project started to support families at home throughout the COVID Pandemic. The lockdowns had created uncertainty and it was important for our tamaiti to experience a familiar routine at Tino e Tasi of mat time, with a collection of beautiful songs that encourages the Samoan language in their own home.
Fa’afetai lava to the Ministry of Education. With the support of the Pacific Education Innovation Fund, the tamaiti of Tino e Tasi Preschool gained the experience of singing and recording beloved pese performed every day at Tino e Tasi Preschool to share and showcase Gagana Samoa with the world in the digital space.
The Pacific Education Innovation Fund specifically targets innovative practices that support Pacific learners’ wellbeing and curriculum needs, which have been affected by COVID-19, including in Pacific bilingual and immersion education.

A big thank you to our Audio Engineer and Videographer Adam Hogan from Loho Studios, who recorded the magical voices of the tamaiti and faia’oga. The experience was new to the children and teachers, but under your gentle guidance, they were very inspired to perform and came away with a sense of achievement.
Finally, to the faia’oga of Tino e Tasi Preschool: thank you for being courageous in your teaching practice. You helped to design a rich curriculum that embraces Gagana Samoa and aganu’u.
