Really like the app, especially for Alaska flying with the color coded FAA cameras on the map for quick reference. The only critique so far is the flow of the flight planning, when you click on an airport to look at the weather would speed the flow up to add the quick links for details and direct to at the top like in the more function of holding your finger down on the map to see the nearest Navaids and airports. Definitely has some cool features compared to ForeFlight for less than half the price.

Glad you like it! When you tap an airport weather report, the top left button (airport symbol) takes you to the full airport details, and as of today’s release there’s a Direct To button next to it as well.

This app leaves a lot to be desired in its current state. It’s being marketed as the killer to other EFBs, but I really don’t see a single thing here (outside of up to date fuel pricing, which could be accomplished with a literal 15 second call. Call them as you open your hangar door and it’s a net negative since you aren’t wasting any time.) that stands out as “better” than the big apps with more features. If this had checklists, weight and balance, garmin integration, crosswind factor (or, frankly, any runway information as all it shows is a map and the longest runway), logbook, weather forecasts beyond just what the sky will look like, satellite map, the ability to download the world updates when I want and not blow through my data without a way to pause for me to get on FBO WiFi, ….. I might consider jumping to this full time. I enjoy Matt’s videos and try to support where I can. I think there’s certainly potential, but I open up foreflight and it just seems “right”. The map seems a bit busy for my taste and I can’t seem to understand why it’s so cluttered with no way to turn that off. Keep it up Matt, I’m going to keep my subscription as a “thank you” for the videos but I really hope there’s some significant feature additions and upgrades to the system soon.

Hi Nick,I appreciate the support and the honest feedback. We’re certainly adding all those things you mention over the next few months (well, the Garmin integration is up to them and they haven’t done it for anyone else, but let ‘em know you need it).I’d say our biggest differentiators right now are the ability to see weather on a map (frankly nobody else really does that — they either hide it all (no full METAR let alone TAFs), or you can only see a few time periods for a couple forecasts and they take 10x as long to load so it’s not really practical for planning) — and see everything at a particular time, so that you can plan when or how to get somewhere and where to stop. A 15 second phone call is great if you know the weather is perfect and exactly where you’re going, but my experience with the other apps is that it takes about 15 phone calls that are several minutes each because the first 14 prices were wildly wrong and I want to find something better. We also try to make things like frequencies noticeably faster to find and use, and we’ve got a similar improvement coming for runways soon too.If you get a moment though, shoot an email to help@eightflight.com, I’d be curious which other forecasts you’re missing the most (in V2.2 we’re adding 10-day airport forecasts, offline Skew-Ts anywhere, and our “killer” 8Cast GFA that I hope will be about the only forecast you ever need; and V2.1 next week will have the much improved winds aloft that didn’t quite make 2.0). Real-time fuel, fees, and weather

Absolutely love this new EFB! The real-time fuel prices and FBO fee updates are helpful, saving me both time and money. It makes checking the weather so much faster and the accuracy is spot-on. The app provides all the essential tools in one place, but if I could offer one suggestion: declutter the default map, please. Sometimes I just want to look at a map. Overall highly recommend it for anyone looking to streamline their flight planning

I switched to 8Flight as soon as I heard that ForeFlight was being sold to a PE. I was already looking to get away from FF because they were overpriced and kept raising prices without adding more features. I found 8Flight about a year ago and I have no regrets switching to it.I’ve been using 8Flight now for almost a year. It has THE best weather radar imagery out of any EFB. The turbulence and clouds layers are also really accurate. The flight planning is easy to use and you can file any kind of flight plan. The app gets regularly updated with new innovative features. Its price beats(significantly) out both of the big name EFB’s yet offers/will offer the same features. Keep up the great work 8Flight team!
