VERSION 1.7 Two changes. Every Focus Level session now carries its complete Monroe layer stack, and a new Audible beat mode turns the differential into a pulse you can hear. THE FULL LAYER STACKS Version 1.6 rebuilt the engine and verified that the shipped tones match their specification to within a ten millionth of a hertz. Checking the presets against that specification turned up a different problem. Several sessions had been shipping fewer layers than the Monroe tables document. Focus 12 ran five of its eight layers. Focus 15 ran five of seven. Focus 21 ran four of six. All of them now run the full set. Focus 10 keeps its four. The 1.5 Hz delta pair now sits on a 100 Hz carrier in Focus 10, Focus 12 and Focus 15. Focus 10 had been carrying that pair at 500 Hz, taken from a secondary table. The Focus Level tables are the canonical list, so 100 Hz wins. On small earbuds a 100 Hz tone carries less weight, so the layer runs at a higher amplitude to compensate. Focused Attention drops from 34 Hz beats to 30 Hz. Above roughly 30 Hz the two tones start to fuse rather than beat, which is the limit the app documents everywhere else. Layer amplitudes in every stage sum to exactly 1.00, leaving the same headroom before master gain and the ambient bed no matter how dense the mix gets. Denser sessions put each individual layer lower in the mix. Total level is unchanged. Inside a stage, layers are ordered so each engine voice glides the shortest distance from where it was in the previous stage. The session display still shows the canonical Monroe order. AUDIBLE BEAT A true binaural beat has no acoustic signature in either ear. Measure the left channel alone and it is a steady tone. Measure the right alone and it is a steady tone. The beat is what your auditory system produces from the difference, which is why headphones matter and why the effect is subtle by design. Version 1.6 removed a once per second click that some sessions had carried since launch. That click was an artifact, not a beat, but it was loud and regular and it was easy to hear. Audible beat mode is the deliberate version. It mixes 30 percent of each ear's signal into the other, after the layers are summed and before master gain, so every layer's differential becomes a physical amplitude pulse. At a 4 Hz differential the per ear modulation goes from under 2 percent to about 46 percent. Peak level does not change. Toggling ramps over half a second, sample accurate, so it is safe to turn on and off mid session. The trade is real. Mixing the ears together reduces the separation the Monroe method depends on. The opposite tone sits about 10.5 dB down in each ear. This is not the Monroe method and the app says so at the toggle. Off by default. Turn it on in Settings under Audio, or from the controls during an active session. WHAT DID NOT CHANGE No new permissions. No new data collection. VERSION 1.6 The binaural engine has been rebuilt from the oscillator up. No new features in this release. Every session in the app now sounds the way it was specified. WHAT WAS WRONG The old oscillator rebuilt each tone's phase from a sample counter on every frame. For a whole number carrier frequency the math works out. For a fractional one it does not, and the waveform stepped once per second. Many of the 54 layer definitions in the app run on fractional carriers. 49.75 Hz. 100.5 Hz. 126.22 Hz. 583.8 Hz. Those sessions carried a faint click, once a second, for the length of the session. Frequency glides were wrong in a second way. The ramp offset was applied twice, so the carrier ran past its target during every transition. A 30 second glide specified to end at 126.013 Hz emitted 132.025 Hz instead. Both ears drifted together, so the beat differential survived an opening glide. At a stage change where the beat itself moves, it did not. The beat wobbled by up to 0.126 Hz, a 23 percent error against a 0.5 Hz target. WHAT IS DIFFERENT NOW Every frequency layer renders through one phase continuous rotation oscillator inside a single fused callback. Phase carries across frequency changes by construction, so a stage transition cannot introduce a discontinuity. Verified on the shipped build: Carrier and beat frequencies accurate to within 0.0000002 Hz, including the 0.25 Hz and 0.5 Hz differentials. Zero amplitude drift across a 45 minute session. No waveform discontinuity at any carrier, fractional or whole. Identical output regardless of the buffer size the system hands the app. 3.3x less CPU on an eight layer session, 2.9x on a single layer. Longer battery, more headroom when other audio shares the device. HISTORY Swipe to delete a session record now works. The gesture had been attached to a view with no support for it, so it had never done anything. The timeline loads in pages, with a Load Older Sessions control at the bottom. Before this release, opening History built a row for every record you had ever created in order to draw the first screen. Header stats for total sessions, hours, streak, and prep time now come from one pass over your records instead of four. A SMALLER DOWNLOAD The app is 48 percent smaller, 19.3 MB down to 10.1 MB. The icon catalog held six copies of the same 1024 pixel image, one per appearance and device class, at 2.2 MB each. The dark and tinted appearances are now derived by iOS from the standard icon, which is what you were seeing already. DAILY TOOLS The usage log keeps the most recent 750 entries. Nothing in the app reads further back than seven days, and an uncapped log was re-encoded in full on every write. WHAT DID NOT CHANGE No new permissions. No new data collection. Still no ads, no third party trackers, no social features. Your session history, custom sessions, and saved templates carry over untouched. Every preset frequency specification is the same as it was. It is simply rendered correctly now. One audible difference beyond the fixes. Ambient noise runs on a new generator. Statistically the same sound, with the old 10,000 level quantization gone.
