The Bible is the central sacred scripture of Judaism and Christianity. It is a compilation of 66 distinct books divided into two primary sections: the Old Testament, detailing the history and covenants of ancient Israel, and the New Testament, focusing on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The Bible was written by dozens of different authors over a span of more than 1,000 years in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Because of its massive influence on history, law, and literature, it remains the most widely read and translated book in the world. Here is how it is structured: The Old Testament (Hebrew Bible / Tanakh): Contains 39 books (or up to 46 in some Catholic traditions) covering the creation of the world, the history of the Jewish people, and the writings of ancient prophets. The New Testament: Contains 27 books, including four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) that chronicle the life and resurrection of Jesus, the history of the early church (Acts), letters offering theological guidance, and a final prophetic book (Revelation).
