A new introduction on first launch: a few slides about the guide and one question — how much time you have. Your answer picks the walk the app tour shows you. You can replay it any time from Settings. Buying is one step shorter: the price button on the map opens the payment sheet straight away. If your phone is short of space, the guide tells you before the download — not halfway through it. Settings now have a Contact us section: email, help and the privacy policy in one place. Heading to Rome as well? The guide now mentions our Colosseum guide — briefly, and without getting in the way. Plus a smoother map and small fixes.

• A new walkthrough on first launch: it shows the app in action instead of handing out tips. • Walking guidance: a turn banner, arrival time, buttons to open your navigator, and a note when you arrive. • Routes from afar: you see the walking line to the start, then choose to listen from here or start on site. The route takes over when you arrive. • Routes now run from 1 to the end: from the gate you entered, then from where you stand, without doubling back. The counter no longer jumps ahead ("6 of 12" at the start). • Bottom panels, the mini-player included, swipe away to the left. • Location access now lives in Settings, with a prompt before a route. Tapping Guide me mid-route asks whether to finish the current one. • The stories in French, Italian, Portuguese and Chinese have been reworked, and search is better.

The route bar used to show the distance to the next stop even when the route had not been built from the park, and printed thousands of kilometres. Now, when there is nowhere to walk from, the number is simply left out — and metres are labelled in the language you are listening in. Search now works in Chinese and finds more in Italian, French and Portuguese: every stop has keywords of its own. We also corrected the number of languages the guide says it speaks.

We went through how the guide is actually used on real trips — from the purchase to the last narration on site. The conclusion was simple: the guide has to work where there is no network at all. Now it does, all the way. If some narrations are not on your phone yet, the app shows exactly what is missing and fetches the rest by itself as soon as you are back online. What you bought stays yours offline: everything already downloaded simply works. While downloading, a clear hint: keep the app open and the package arrives faster. And if you close the app before it finishes, a reminder makes sure you do not set off with an incomplete guide.

Fixed a bug where the map could flicker, and improved how quickly your walking route appears when you open the app.

Tessera now warns you when the stories are not fully downloaded. There is no signal inside the excavations, and the gate is a bad place to find that out. Buying is one step shorter: the payment sheet opens straight away and the download starts on its own. The map opens closer — the city fills the screen instead of being lost among the fields — and no longer zooms out past the park. The play button comes back to life after a story reaches its end. Smaller things: the map returns to the overview when you close a route, two controls no longer share the same icon, and the button that replays the tips works again.
