Make building your vocabulary fun and simple with WordPal.
WordPal is a useful app that can be used to improve your English vocabulary, whether it be to help you sound more intelligent, directly in exams, in word games such as Scrabble or Boggle, with creative writing or anything else.
The simple, clean interface allows you to concentrate on learning and progressing swiftly, without any annoying distractions. The app uses a special algorithm centred around the scientifically proven approach of spaced repetition to determine which words you aren’t so confident with, allowing it to prioritise the order in which words are served. This allows you to quickly learn new words and grow your English vocabulary whilst also reinforcing the meaning of words that you already know.
The selected words are based on their frequency in the English language in its everyday use, meaning that you are learning words that you don’t know while still being able to use these words every day - there would be no point in learning words you would never use, see or hear!
After downloading the app, you will be able to enjoy the many features WordPal has to offer for free:
- Pick the synonym of the word given from multiple choice
- See the word’s definition(s) to help you better understand the word
- See an example for each definition to show the word in context
- Access your progress at any time to get a feel for how you are doing; get regular updates of your progress while learning to show how you are improving your vocabulary
- 5 progress levels are used: mastered, nearly mastered, getting there, keep trying and work needed — this helps to see how well you know each word
- Sleek, clean design
- Set a daily goal to help keep you on track and set up notification reminders for specific times of the day, allowing you to improve your vocabulary every day and learn new words rapidly through spaced repetition
- Build up a streak (the number of consecutive days you have achieved your daily goal)
- Extremely intuitive and simple to use
A premium version (WordPal Premium Subscription) is available through subscription which includes more words, games, and the ability to bookmark words.
Picking the correct synonym is a very useful method for growing your vocabulary quickly:
- Firstly, it makes it easier for you to use more advanced words when you speak or write. If you wanted to find a better word for something, you would look in a thesaurus (a thesaurus shows synonyms for words), but if you know a synonym for each word you learn in the app, you will find it easier to replace that synonym with the more advanced vocabulary word in everyday speech and writing.
- Secondly, knowing a synonym serves as a trigger word in your memory to help you remember the general meaning of each word - having this trigger word makes it easier to remember the definitions and examples you have seen in our app when you see or hear a word.
Why do our users love our app?

I think I’ve tried every vocab app. A lot of them are more for English as a 2nd language, but I’ve always just wanted to have a richer vocabulary for reading and communicating. Only a few are really good and worth using long term, and this is one of them. Pros:- well-made with good concise definitions and an attractive interface - nice set of games to practice alongside the standard practice format- has a spaced repetition structure- gives definitions and example sentences for learning, but also gives practice questions with single synonyms. Very effective- though I would prefer to also have printed pronunciations, the built-in pronunciation tool is greatCons:- not much customization. I wish I could look up and add words to the mix. Also, even with existing words, you can add favorites, but you can’t tell the app to focus more or less on any particular words. For example, the app might decide that you have mastered a word, but you might want to work on the word more. This app doesn’t let you do that.- take a look at their updates in the App Store. They have lots of updates, but they’ve all been saying the exact same thing for years, which makes me suspect that they’re just putting that in there to make us feel like the app is regularly updated.- though there are more overpriced apps out there, I still think it still should be a little cheaper for what it is

Hi there, thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed review. It really means a lot to us to hear that WordPal stands out among the many vocabulary apps you’ve tried! We’re pleased that there’s so much you like about the app and your feedback motivates our team to continue providing a great experience. We also really appreciate your constructive feedback. You’ve raised some excellent points, and we agree that having printed pronunciations and more control over which words you focus on could be useful. In terms of updates, we’ve actually just released our additional examples feature, giving you an extra 5 example sentences per word. And there is much more on the way soon too!If you have any further suggestions, we’d love to hear from you at support@dynamicapps.co.uk. Thanks again for your support, and happy learning!Kind regards, Owen and the WordPal team :)
It’s great and has room to develop!

First of all, I’ve been searching for an app to enhance and deepen my vocabulary by application. This is a strong start by offering the daily challenge synonym match and the various word games. In order for me to fully conceptualize words I’m learning I have to write or type my own sentences using the words I get wrong on the daily challenges. It would be amazing if WordPal implemented that system within their App. The next step would assign AI to proofread and determine if the use of the word in that context is strong, moderate or weak. It could starkly sharpen the user because we are using our own voices and ideas to determine how we visualize and understand the words we’re learning. Plus it will ignite the overall experience and spark creativity within the user because we’re learning what the words mean and how to use it in context. That’s my initial thought. Second of all, the GUI is a little austere to me however, the benefits outweigh visualization. Step by step in the right direction will place Word Pal as the number 1 vocabulary learning app that yields everlasting results!Great work overall!

I have been using this app for a couple of weeks now to expand my vocabulary. I’m enjoying it because it’s quick. I am able to retain a lot of the words and definitions because they repeat. I would like to categorize words on my own rather than always have the app decide whether I know a word or not-sometimes I just guess right. I especially enjoy the crossword because it requires me to come up with the word on my own, which is very different than picking it out of a multiple choice. The problem is, if I can’t think of a word, I don’t have any way of finding out what it was within the app. I just have to stop playing the crossword and leave it blank? A hint option could help. I realize I could go outside of the app and try and figure it out but the whole point of this is that it’s quick, for busy people. I think I should be able to make my own group of words to play with so that I can reinforce them as the app cannot necessarily accurately gauge my understanding.
Word-to-Definition Game plz!

This app is spectacular!! It’s really helped me in just a couple days!! I actually want to use it, plus since it gauges your vocabulary level originally it makes it much more personalized and you don’t feel out of your level!! My one request, please make a match word to definition game! My brain is bad at recall or spelling words i don’t know lol & the other ones are synonym matches, would love one where it’s matching the word to the definition, to drive home the synonym matches one!!Thank you for this app!
