Description

The 64 Express Lanes mobile app helps find the estimated toll for a trip on the Express Lanes on Interstate 64 between the I-64/I-264 interchange and I-564 in Norfolk, Virginia. Tolls on the 64 Express Lanes are only in force for specified times of day and in certain directions of travel.
Through a simple calculator-style interface, users must select their direction of travel, their entrance point onto the 64 Express Lanes, date and time of entry, and their exit point off the 64 Express Lanes. The app will display the estimated toll for the trip. The app provides historical toll prices, up to and including current toll estimates.
You don’t need to register to use the app. The 64 Express Lanes app operates anonymously. We don’t receive or record any identifying information about you or your phone.
• Please note that only valid dates/times when the tolling is active will be accepted into the calculator.
• Please also note that the figures provided by this toll calculator are for approximation purposes only, and may not match the exact prices seen on invoices from the roadway operator.
The app contains a link to the 64 Express Lanes website, so users can navigate to learn more about the implementation of the 64 Express Lanes, check out FAQs, and leave questions or comments for VDOT. There is also a link to Virginia 511, so that users can check on traffic conditions throughout the Commonwealth.
IMPORTANT – This application is intended to be launched while the user is not operating his or her motor vehicle. User agrees to use the Application responsibly and to avert any interaction with mobile devices while driving a motor vehicle.

Don’t actually give toll prices, just “estimates”

At a minimum, this app should give the real life current toll. It dose not. It would also be nice if I could look up past pricing information. The only thing this app is good for is finding an estimate of the price of a future time based off of an average of the last 4 weeks. Nothing else. Worse, to get to that data it takes 5 pages and 3 drop downs. My friends, there are only 2 directions and 3 entrance/exit groups with price differences. That’s only 6 total options. I get that you want the app to be future proof when there are more options. However, a better UI could get that down to 2 pages and one drop down max. Maybe a direct link to the graph displaying the historical advantage (the only real information this app provides). A well designed graph can easily and clearly display all westbound or eastbound prices at once. Lastly, your two websites browsers at the bottom are missing a “back” (previously webpage) button meaning if you actually use them as intended it’s easy to get stuck. Would have been better off forgoing the browser and just including links to open my device’s default browser. All in all, this feels like a “lowest bid“ app.

App makes no sense

The time picker auto claims to adjust to “valid” times but doesn’t seem to actually do that. It would be better to say why a time is invalid.

App works well.

With traffic around here this app is useful. The app is quick and mostly efficient.
