How's the beach today? Costa reads waves, weather, wind, sargassum and water quality across Puerto Rico and sums it up in one number: the Costa Score. How's the beach today? Costa gives you an answer, not a spreadsheet. One number from 1 to 100 — the Costa Score — sums up conditions at 110 beaches across Puerto Rico, in 36 municipalities and all six coasts. Underneath it sits everything that built it: currents, surf, wind, water quality, clarity, sargassum, Saharan dust, UV, water temperature, tide and weather. HOW IT WORKS Costa doesn't generate its own data. It reads 17 official sources — the National Weather Service, NOAA, CARICOOS, Puerto Rico's Environmental Quality Board, the San Juan Bay Estuary Program, USF and NOAA CoastWatch satellites, Copernicus CAMS — and turns them into something you can read at a glance. Readings are recalculated every 15 minutes. WHAT YOU GET • A clear verdict on whether it's OK to get in, and why • Rip current advisories, bacteria levels and sargassum, stated plainly • 17 public balnearios and 24 kid-friendly beaches, marked • Filters: best right now, favorites, no sargassum, balnearios, surf • Map, photos and directions • English and Spanish HONEST BY DEFAULT When we don't know something, we say so. If no water sample is taken near a beach, Costa won't show a reassuring green — it says there's no reading. A forecast is never dressed up as an observation. Every reading shows its source and when it was taken. Costa is free, has no ads, and never asks you to create an account. Made in Puerto Rico. Costa is a guidance tool, not a lifeguard service. The ocean changes by the minute. Always follow the flags, the lifeguards, and your own judgment.

• Filters now have icons. • Each beach's summary reads better when there's more than one thing to flag: it separates what's happening now from this week's risk. • A rip current advisory is always mentioned. It used to drop out when another condition outweighed it. • Cloudy water now counts toward the Costa Score. • Under an active advisory the verdict is direct: "Don't go in." • Wording and typography fixes throughout.
