Detects XYZ motion but also gives the best visual indication I have seen for orientation to earths gravity field showing the acceleration field of the earth itself. It depends on what measurements you need. This app measures linear acceleration. The Sensor Kinetics app is much better. Could use resultant acceleration as well.

This shows the phone’s orientation, not its acceleration.
