This app is a great idea to complete against the other big marketplaces BUT i’m not sure if the funding wasn’t there or they gave up or what happened. This app is so low quality. Buttons don’t work, stuff doesn’t load, can’t save half the changes you make, little to no views no matter what, paying for a boost is just a huge waste, the confirmation email goes to spam? why? no other app’s does that. They even have to tell you to check LOL. This app is just awfully made, needs tons of updates, bug fixes, just a whole remodel to be honest. UI isn’t pretty either. Again great idea for local sales but man this just had a unexperienced app builder or the funding wasn’t there. .5/10 if i could.
The app itself is really easy to use. I like being able to post several pictures and I also appreciate that I can renew my listing to keep it at the top of the page every four hours. Now for the cons. The people that use this app to buy are downright awful. Worse than Craigslist I think. I've had a few good eggs, but most people give extreme lowball offers. (Washer dryer $300 OBO. Offer given was $50). The other issue that I've encountered very frequently is that people give you an offer, you accept and then you never hear back. OR, this has happened to me three times now, people will agree to meet you and then never show up. Some ask for your personal phone number and address before even agreeing to meet. There could be some safety issues there. I've had men ask me to meet them in parking lots at 10pm. No way! I feel like there should be a way to kick people off the app who do things like this too frequently. Wasting a person's time is unacceptable. And when you leave a bad review of someone for doing this, they like to give a retaliatory bad review. Seems like there should be a way to get rid of those. Anyway, it would be nice to see people blocked from the app when they do creepy things or when they flake out hard. Some people are just getting rid of clutter and others like me, are moving out of state and are really needing to sell things.
Used to love this app years ago and my experiences on it were largely positive but lately I have noticed a disturbing pattern: sellers are either putting up fake ads, don’t seem serious about selling or will leave conversations hanging in messages with no explanation or resolution. I see it happen on 5miles way more than I see on other apps. I use apps like offerup, Craigslist and Facebook marketplace and my experiences are much better at these other places. People on these other sites seem motivated to sell and will respond in a fairly timely manner and usually resolve the conversations whether it leads to a sale or not. I’m not sure why this trend of lazy, unmotivated or rude sellers on 5miles but it’s been happening way too much and so I wanted to share that on here. Not sure if 5miles can do anything about this disturbing trend but bottom line I think they should know how buyer experiences compare at other places. And no, I’m not low-balling sellers or being rude to them when I contact. It’s just a consistent pattern I have noticed these days that sellers on 5miles seem unmotivated and often leave conversations hanging way more than I have seen at other selling apps or websites.
I admit that I am just about to list my first item for sale. I have spent quite some time reviewing others' postings and reading instructions, tips and comments from users. I must say based on other apps that focus primarily on buying and selling items somewhat locally, this is the most clearly defined and well explained of them all. Every step seems to have been covered. Every effort to protect the safety the seller and the purchaser seems to have been considered. I looked at other apps and even listed an item on one but felt intimidated and not particularly safe when approached about a purchase because there were no internal mechanisms to support that transaction.I feel I will have a better experience with 5miles.My only complaint or wish is that you would make it possible to view/use this app in landscape as well as portrait view. I am one of those people who hate using portrait view on my iPad, which is my most likely device for using this app. Otherwise so far I am happy. Keep up the good work.
I've used this app for about a year. It has worked well to sell and buy. Unfortunately they've made some changes that aren't appealing to me. Can't stand the home screen now. Too many items crammed on the page that they're so small, can't hardly tell what items are. Items use to be larger and at one time displayed location on home screen. I miss that feature. Now I have to go into item description just to see that the item is in north Dallas, etc. I literally only want items within 5-10 miles from me. For about 2 months the app has been constantly crashing. Problems opening it, problems seeing messages, problems with not getting notifications. I see others are moving to different apps like offer up. I may have to follow if this is not fixed soon. Oh and like others have said, that annoying "sell stuff" icon at the bottom of home page needs to go!

I can’t 100% prove it but I get messages from people who have not been active in multiple days or weeks. I think the app is looking at products that are not selling well and it sends automated messages from inactive accounts. The messages are asking questions like “ Do you have more pictures?” I always have at least 5+ pictures in my listings. When I ask what other pictures they want there is never a response. They ask “Can you give me more information?” I over explain each of my products to make sure that there is no confusion later in the process. But again when I ask what other information they are looking for, no response. I get the question are they being sold as a group or individually and in the listing it says “I am pricing/selling them individually.” Shocker no response from them either. I have yet to sell anything on here because the couple times I have had real interest the people don’t show up or they are expecting me to deliver a $15 product 30 miles from my house for free. Use a different app this one doesn’t seem to have an ethical setup!
