SAM Labs and AlphaBEST bring you AB Code, an offline coding app for AlphaBEST students nationwide. Use your token to unlock projects for hands-on coding activities! AB Code is the official AlphaBEST Education coding app, powered by SAM Labs. Designed exclusively for AlphaBEST programs across the country, AB Code provides students with an engaging, hands-on way to explore coding, creativity, and problem-solving both online and offline. With AB Code, students can bring their ideas to life through two powerful coding environments: -SAM Space: A visual, flow-based coding platform where students connect virtual and physical blocks to design interactive systems. -SAM Blockly: A block-based coding environment that introduces programming concepts in a fun, intuitive way and supports progression into text-based coding. AB Code is built specifically for AlphaBEST afterschool and summer programs. Each student and educator must use a program-issued token to log in and access the coding platforms. Without a token, the app cannot be used. What’s Inside the App: -Access to SAM Space and SAM Blockly coding environments. -Use of physical SAM Labs blocks from student kits combined with virtual blocks in the app to expand possibilities. -Offline functionality for flexible use in classrooms, afterschool programs, or field sites with limited or no connectivity, once downloaded to the device. Part of the Full AlphaBEST Experience: -AlphaBEST students also engage with an 8-week curriculum unit adapted for afterschool learning and aligned to national standards. -This curriculum is provided by AlphaBEST and SAM Labs as part of the broader program experience and is not built into the app itself. -Annual updates are delivered alongside the program to keep lessons fresh and aligned with evolving standards. Why AB Code? -Exclusive to AlphaBEST students and educators nationwide. -Encourages creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving through hands-on coding. -Easy-to-use design makes it simple for educators and engaging for students. -Supports equitable access with offline capabilities, so no constant internet is required. Important: This app is only for AlphaBEST Education programs. Students and educators must use the unique access token provided by their program to activate the app. Tokens are renewed annually and distributed by AlphaBEST staff. Without a token, AB Code cannot be accessed. Support and Resources: Technical support is available through SAM Labs and AlphaBEST program staff. AB Code brings together the best of SAM Labs’ educational technology with AlphaBEST Education’s nationwide afterschool expertise.
