AetherRF Lite
Productivity
Free
Aether Lite is an RF and Microwave engineering suite for professionals, students, and enthusiasts. Explore the full RF design workflow — from system link budgets to impedance matching — at no cost.
Aether Lite limits the number of blocks in a budget to 3 and the number of budgets in a project to 2.
A full-featured version (Aether) without these limitations is also available.
System Budget Calculator:
• Cascade Analysis: Chain amplifiers, mixers, filters, and attenuators to compute system Noise Figure, Gain, IP3, and P1dB.
• Link Budget: Calculate received power, SNR, and link margin for wireless systems.
• Export cascade diagrams as PDF, SVG or draw.io.
Filter Designer (limited edition, max 3rd order):
• Filter Synthesis: Butterworth and Chebyshev responses.
• Filter Classes: Low Pass, High Pass and Band Pass.
• Passive LC ladder implementation with frequency and component scaling.
• S-parameter simulation with magnitude, phase/delay, and schematic views.
IQ Simulator:
• Signal Generator: Create CW, two-tone, and Gaussian noise signals, or load IQ data files.
• Spectrum, IQ waveforms and constellation visualization.
Smith Chart Designer (lite version):
• Interactive Smith Chart with schematic editor.
• L, C, R, Transmission Lines, and S2P blocks.
• Amplifier Design with Gain and Stability Circles.
• Frequency sweep and Monte Carlo analysis.
Data Explorer:

BUDGET CALCULATOR: NODE WAVEFORM VIEW
• The node spectrum dialog has a second view showing the steady-state waveform at that node. It is synthesized from the node's own spectrum — every line with its amplitude and physical phase, harmonics and intermodulation included — so it costs no extra solve, and it turns compression and clipping into a shape you can read at a glance.
• The window defaults to one beat period and can be halved or doubled. It is evaluated analytically at display density rather than resampled, so there is no aliasing and no false amplitude beating on a narrow-band signal.
• An optional noise overlay gives a band-limited realization over a window at least as long as the noise correlation time, and a ±σ band with a caption saying why over a shorter one.
IQ SIMULATOR: REFERENCE PLANES
• A picker in the header chooses which node the input and output waveforms are taken at, so an interior stage can be examined without deleting the blocks around it. Planes are indexed over the full lineup, so enabling or disabling a block cannot re-point a stored plane at a different node. The header states which planes are in force when they are off their defaults.
FILTER DESIGNER: PHASE AND GROUP DELAY
• A new toggle switches the phase trace between the default unwrapped form and a wrapped, instrument-style ±180° display, applied to every phase view at once so they stay comparable. Group delay is unaffected.
• The logarithmic frequency axis now covers the Phase/Delay plot too, with the full set of log-domain interactions, and a new Axis Settings dialog adds manual ranges for the X axis and both Y axes.
FILE IMPORT ON IPHONE AND IPAD
• Importing data files works again. Touchstone, MDIF, load-pull and antenna-pattern files were offered to the file picker in a way iOS does not apply, so they appeared greyed out. Pickers for types iOS cannot identify now accept any file and check the contents afterwards, reporting one that will not parse.
• Controls that ran off the edge of a phone screen stay reachable, including the IQ Simulator header and the waveform view's control row.
ALSO IN THIS RELEASE
• A mixer block's editor reads out the conversion it will actually perform, taken from the frequency that block receives rather than the system reference — so a second mixer in series no longer reports an IF no stage produces.
• Harmonic Balance builds its grid far faster on long tone lists, refuses an unaffordable solve up front instead of appearing to hang, and reports a mixer stage's spectrum in the mixer's output plane.
• Vendor libraries stored as ZIP archives keep working after an app update, with no full re-scan; stale indexes refresh in the background and a missing library is named rather than leaving an empty list.
• The Filter Designer's Time tab no longer shows a false amplitude-beating envelope on narrow-band designs. New BOM Tolerance column, and "Revert all to ideal" now asks first.
• Attenuator blocks can be drawn as a fixed pad or a variable attenuator, and a diplexer symbol shows which branch it represents.
• Long block names wrap instead of being clipped in the PDF report and the editable diagram export, and a report with pie charts no longer fails when a metric has no contributions.
• Monte Carlo distribution panning is clamped to 0–100%, and the IQ Simulator's in-app help has been checked against the engine and corrected throughout.
UPGRADE TO AETHER FOR
Custom spec bands in the Filter Designer: your own per-band rejection, insertion-loss and return-loss requirements, checked against the response, the order estimate and the Monte Carlo yield. The rest of the filter library: Bessel, Chebyshev II, Gaussian, elliptic and Legendre-Papoulis, band-stop classes, transmission-line implementations, and orders above 3. The Trace Designer and its 2D BEM solver. And larger designs: more than three blocks in a budget, and more than three elements or two networks in a matching design.
