Description

Appcompanist gives classical and musical theater singers and voice teachers full control over incredible piano accompaniment recordings, including tempo, key, melody help, fermata and more.

Appcompanist puts a level of control in your hand never before possible with recorded accompaniments. Transpose to any key; set any tempo; blend the melody in and out in various octaves as piece plays; create additional rubato, fermatas of any length, ritardandos and accelerandos; set markers and create cuts and loop sections, all using simple on-screen motions that can be done with one hand while teaching or singing, and all without affecting musical quality. You can even save your tempo changes and fermatti to create your own custom versions and video record yourself or others from within the app while controlling the accompaniment.

Appcompanist also includes over 850 Vocalises and Exercises as part of the free version, all with full app functionality. Repeating exercises also let you choose direction (up, down, or repeat the same key) prior to each repeat. 10 full-length sample songs are also included so you can explore all of the app’s playback features.

Top-level collaborative pianists are recording singer-sensitive accompaniments for arias, art songs, musical theater pieces and more, for use within Appcompanist. Thousands of titles are already available with hundreds added each month.

I love using Appcompanist in the voice studio!

Appcompanist is incredibly useful and user-friendly! Every feature is conceived with the singer and teacher in mind—including variable tempo, key, fermata, melody slider, and new tools to cut and edit excerpts. All of these fancy features would be pointless if there was not an extensive repertoire library with thousands of classical and music theater songs played by professional collaborative pianists. As a voice teacher and singer, I use Appcompanist daily in the studio. Much of the standard classical repertoire and standard-to-new musical theatre rep is available. It is especially helpful for contemporary music theater songs like “Waving Through A Window”. I’m a decent pianist, but I can’t play that! In preparing for my own performances, I was delighted to find the entire Bernstein song cycle, “I Hate Music!”. I’ve sung it before and am relearning it for a Bernstein at 100 concert. It’s very tricky! By the time I rehearse with my live accompanist, I will have solidly prepared thanks to Appcompanist. Whatever sorcerery created this digital magic, I thank you!

Great app, great company

As a voice teacher and singing professional, when I heard about this app, I subscribed to it right away (for short term use). I quickly realized how wonderful this is for a voice teacher who, with decent, but not concert abilities, plays piano for my students lessons, which locks me at the piano, or else I’d need to hire a pianist, which isn’t financially feasible for the student base I have. From the inception of this app, it has slowly grown in its rep list, the ability to stop/start, change keys, etc is fabulous. I’ve really appreciated that the company WANTS to make it better. Anytime I’ve found an issue, I’ve brought it to their attention and they fix it and make changes. They are always listening to their subscribers because they want this to be something that is usable for a LONG time. And as a subscriber, I want this to be around for a LONG time too! Thank you, Appcompanist for trying to make our musical lives better.

I love this app!

I have been having so much fun singing with Appcompanist, it has helped renewed my joy in singing and my willingness to practice. Knowing that I have all the accompaniment for my songs PLUS melody track if needed, is awesome. Being able to change keys and tempo INSTANTLY is so cool and helpful. I am still learning how to use the fermata button, but I think it is so great that the feature is there. The catalogue of songs is extensive (opera art song, musicals, etc) and I emailed the developers to get some spirituals added particularly those by Moses Hogan. They were super responsive and helpful and they said they would prioritize adding those songs. The app sits on my iPhone, but once I connect my phone to an external speaker, it sounds like I have a pianist right in the room! I have been practicing with the app and I plan to perform with it this Sunday (10/29). I have been looking for something like this for a long time. Check it out, it rocks! Woo hoo!!
