Two-column layout is here: on an unfolded iPhone Duo or on iPad, see search results and articles side by side to look up word after word. Turn it on or off in Settings.
Wiktionary Reader is a fast, focused way to explore Wiktionary — the free, collaborative, multilingual dictionary — on iPhone and iPad.
SEARCH 198 LANGUAGE EDITIONS
Look up words in English, Japanese, French, German, Chinese, and nearly 200 other Wiktionary editions. Reorder the language list to keep your favorites on top, and hide the ones you don't need.
QUICK LOOKUPS
Matching entries appear as soon as you search, and recent results are cached so repeat lookups show up instantly. Tap the dice button to discover a random entry and pick up a new word.
A BETTER READING VIEW
• Search an entry's title again with a single tap
• Translate an entry into your preferred language with the globe button (powered by Google Translate)
• Follow links freely with Home, Back, and Forward buttons
• Open an entry in Safari or share it
• Dark Mode support
• Save images from entries to Photos
BOOKMARKS AND HISTORY
Bookmark the words you want to come back to. Every entry you open is added to your history automatically. Search and reorder both lists, and set how many items each one keeps. Export your bookmarks to a file and import them on another device.
TWO-COLUMN LAYOUT ON LARGER SCREENS
On an unfolded iPhone Duo or on iPad, search results appear on the left and the entry on the right, so you can move from word to word without losing your place. Fold your iPhone Duo and the app switches to a single column automatically. You can turn the two-column layout off in Settings.

When it comes to defining words, it’s hard to beat this. It’s just like using the Wiktionary website from 15 years ago. Love the etymology references. But the interface needs to be updated and designed to fit mobile devices of varying sizes. I would be willing to pay for that.
Does exactly what it says. Easy to use / no tech problems. Ideal privacy policy.

For users looking for a dictionary app, this is a little different from some household names, because it simply returns what is on the Wiktionary website to the user query. Wiktionary is a constant work in progress, like Wikipedia. Often, the definitions are unhelpful - for example, resplendence (noun) is defined as being resplendent. But that has nothing to do with the app. It does what it says, I use this on an iPhone 11, iOS 17.7.2, and it’s never crashed or caused headaches. The interface is super-simple, and I appreciate there aren’t a lot of bells and whistles that detract from the core purpose and create noise. There are Bookmarks and History features that could be useful to students, but I don’t use those for day-to-day dictionary lookups. If you don’t mind Wiktionary’s drawbacks, this is a perfectly good app to do quick lookups. Worth calling out the developer’s privacy policy is much appreciated.
Does what it says on the tin

I never review apps, but I'm so happy somebody made an app for this! Perfect for etymology rabbit holes. One nit: would be great if swiping right took me to the previous page instead of to the top-level search bar.Because of aforementioned rabbit holes, I go "back" a lot, and it's annoying that swiping right not only doesn't have the expected (imo at least) behavior, but also makes me lose my history (to go back to previous page you have to press the little back button at top of screen).Relatedly, would be cool if swiping left took you forward in history!Otherwise love it; it's simple but exactly what I needed. Thank you!
AMAZING app

I love it to death. It is the thing I most frequent when i’m searching for definitions or even translations of those definitions. The only complaint I have is that the app crashes INSTANTLY whenever I attempt to access my bookmarks. Don’t know if others have had this problem. Other than that it’s fantastic :).
• Two-column layout: on an unfolded iPhone Duo or on iPad, see search results and entries side by side
• Turn the two-column layout on or off in Settings
• Fixed an issue where the right edge of entries could be cut off on iPad
• Added and improved translations
