What’s New

Version 1.16.0

• Multi-Language Support for Call Arc: Thanks to Nathan, voice-activated search now works in any language supported by Siri. Just open Arc Search, lift your phone to your ear, and speak your query in any of the supported languages to get instant results. Note: transcription only works in the language you’ve selected in iOS settings.
• Reduced Accidental Call Arc Activation: Nathan also has improved gesture control to minimize unintentional activation of Call Arc, ensuring the feature is only triggered when lifting your phone to your ear.
• Custom Search Engine: You can now add custom search engines to Arc Search. Just click the tab switcher in the bottom left corner, then the gear icon, and navigate to “Search Engine” in Site Settings. From there, thanks to Adam’s handiwork, you can choose the search engine that’s best for you.
• Link Previews: Now, following an update from Adam, when you long press on any link, it reveals a website preview within the popup menu — allowing you to preview content at a glance.
• Handoff Across Devices: If you have a tab open in Arc Search, macOS now will suggest opening that URL in your default web browser via Mac’s Handoff feature. Shoutout to Nathan for ensuring this smooth transition between devices.
• Numeric File Downloads: Thanks to Julia, Arc Search now automatically appends sequential numbers to filenames — eliminating the risk of overwriting existing files, and keeping you organized.
• Picture-in-Picture for Videos: While exiting Arc Search previously resulted in videos stopping, now when you exit Arc Search, the video will continue playing on screen. Thank you Nathan for helping us watch our favorite videos while multitasking.
• Site Link-Sharing Action: Following some great work from Nathan, you can now open links directly in Arc Search, or perform a Browse for Me search using text. Simply select the Arc Search action after clicking a link, or highlighting text, and let Arc Search do its thing!
• Fixed Apple Wallet Pass Links: Adam resolved an issue with Apple Wallet pass links containing multiple passes — such as boarding passes or event tickets — ensuring they now open correctly and display all included passes.
• Precise Page Refresh: Pull-to-refresh now waits until you release the drag gesture before initiating the refresh. Thanks to Julia, this should prevent accidental page refreshes, and allow you to cancel by dragging back up before releasing.
• Arc Search Tab Bug Fix: Thanks to Adam, we fixed a bug that could cause Arc Search to repeatedly open new tabs after opening links with an arc:// URL formats.
• Ad Blocker Link Issue Resolution: Adam also addressed an issue where ad blockers could sometimes render certain links un-clickable, such as “Visit” links on Google Images.

Actually Good

I never make reviews but I thought this app deserved one. I downloaded this thinking it would have a paid version that it would push me to purchase and/or would be another regular alternative web browser but I’m pleased to say it is more than that! To start, this app has no paywall or paid version, it also has a built in ad blocker, cookie banner blocker, and tracker blocker, I feel way more confident clicking on “sketchy” websites knowing that I won’t be bombarded with ads or sent to another website that has even more popups. The pinch to summarize feature is also very useful, giving you a detailed overview of the pages content as well as organizing the different topics discussed on the page. It also eliminates the hassle of searching multiple sites for an answer and instead has the option to browse those sites for you. I will admit the summaries do vary depending on the given information and some are more useful than others. I have ran into a couple summaries that were very unhelpful but for the most part it’s great! Get this app if you want free ad, cookie, and tracker blockers and a well designed easy to use interface with ai powered summaries.

So much promise

I WANT to love this app (and the MacOS version as well). It has great features, seems like an awesome company full of talented people. UI is great. The big things at this point that are holding me back from 5 stars and switching from safari to Arc is: 1) the integration with the Apple ecosystem. It would be so much more helpful if the browser tapped into the api to allow users to fill in passwords and other info from the Apple stored info (kinda like Edge does). It’s a kind of a hassle having to either save passwords and verification codes in two places or switch back and forth from Passwords settings to copy and paste. This means using two browsers for different things or starting my searches and browsing on Arc and then if I do make a purchase having switch back over to safari - very inconvenient when the whole point of technology is convenience. 2) no (native) iPad version. Need to be able to consistently browse from one device to another. This needs to be somewhat seamless like in safari. Having to use a second browser on iPad is just counter productive.

Overall it’s a pleasure to use Arc on my Mac and iPhone and I have gotten to use a few features that work amazing and I didn’t even know I needed. Can’t wait to see how this product matures and hope that it can eventually fill the gaps and I can switch over to this as my default across devices.

After all these years, I have finally changed the default browser!

So over the years, I have tried various browsers, I have always stuck with Safari, simply because I’m an Apple user, and it’s always been so intuitive to work with the iPhone. About two months ago, I started seeing some marketing on TikTok for Arc, and since, I have not looked back. Currently my default browser on my Mac mini, as well as my iPhone 15, I do wish there was a browser for the iPad, but I’m sure that’s coming soon! There are constant updates, and the team does a really good job at listening to feedback of the community and then making videos and posts in regards to the feedback and updates. Lastly, the main reason that I love it so much, simply the browse for me feature. Rather than have to look through multiple different websites, browse for me, simply create a webpage specifically for me based upon, what I typed in. It uses various websites to cite its sources and then builds out a simple webpage for me to view and potentially share. This alone makes it the best browser on any device! Highly recommend you download it, just try it for a week, you will be surprised!
