Description

Live, AI Cloudspotter.

NOTE: Newer devices are recommended for better performance in using this app.

Recently got into the hobby of cloud-spotting?
Ever wondered why different clouds have different looks?

Atmosphere is the app for you. Leveraging on the latest machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies, Atmosphere classifies and tells you what kind of a cloud you are currently looking at, via your device’s cameras.

Atmosphere includes the following features:

◆ LIVE CLASSIFICATION ◆
- Atmosphere processes each image frame from your camera using Artificial Intelligence, providing you with live classification results and confidence levels, of what it believes it is seeing.

◆ SNAP*, IMPORT* OR AUTO CLASSIFY ◆
- Take a picture of a cloud and that picture will be automatically classified according to the type of cloud it belongs to.
- You can also import an image from your Photo Library for analysis by the AI.

◆ NO INTERNET CONNECTION NEEDED ◆
- This app processes everything on device, ensuring you all the privacy you deserve, while you spot the clouds.

◆ CLASSIFY IT THE WAY YOU LIKE IT ◆
- Artificial Intelligence can have its flaws at times, and when that happens, you can still take a picture of the cloud, and classify it yourself.

◆ NO TRACKING PRIVACY POLICY ◆
- Atmosphere does not, and will not track you. It’s that simple.

Proudly Made in Singapore.

Atmosphere is created by me, Vincent Neo, an individual developer. I believe that being curious about nature is amazing, and that this app would be able to tell individuals what cloud they are looking at, in an easy to use manner.

*In App Purchase is required for the picture taking feature.
Prolonged use of app may decrease battery life more than usual, due to the heighten CPU usage when the camera is on, with live AI processing.

Really useful app…

I especially like being able to point my iPhone skyward while stopped at an intersection to capture unusual or awesome cloud formations.
For the AI to work I sometimes have to reframe the picture until I get a relatively stable confidence value, at least in the 80s. Hot the camera button to capture it (before the light turns green).
I also use it on my iPad—works perfectly now that the bug is fixed.

Opportunities: picture sharing with other devices on the same Apple ID, offer users the chance to share images with the developer to furthering train the AI, and add examples of sub-cloud types on the “info” pages.

Thanks for your very in-depth review and also thanks for the ideas that you've provided!

I think there might be a way to allow for the user to improve the model by training on-device with images that they have taken. Might need to research a bit more about it.

Also, indeed the information pages are quite lacking right now.

Pretty neat!

Simple, easy to use and accurate. I spent the two bucks for the upgraded version and I'm quite happy with it.

Thank you so much for your support, and I am glad you enjoyed using Atmosphere!

Doesn’t do what it says

Downloaded this app hoping to have some fun with it but right from the beginning it does not do what it says it does.
Worked fine for a day or two but now every time you point the camera towards a cloud you get nothing. I have tried everything including reinstalling it but it just won’t work. Then I tried emailing the developer, twice and nothing but crickets.
WATCH YOURSELVES because it isn’t cheap either!

Developer Response ,

Hi Madd59,
I believe that I had never received your email(s). The last email that I have received of relevance to Atmosphere app was in September of this year, and there hasn't been any Atmosphere related emails since. Considering that this review is written in November, I assume that your emails were delivered to the wrong address?

May I check with you on the email address that you have sent to? My email is vincent-neo@outlook.sg. Do note that the - is a hyphen not a _ underscore. Feel free to write in.

Though, I can answer your question here as well, on why you are getting nothing: AI image recognition models such as the one used in Atmosphere cannot guarantee detection, 100% of the time.

Also note that the live detection feature is absolutely free to use, with the In App Purchase for the image capture and importation features.

The live detection feature is intentionally free to use so that users can evaluate if the AI matches expectations or not, before deciding whether or not to purchase the In App Purchase for additional features unlock.

I hope this clears things up a little, and thank you for writing this review, regardless.
