Ratings and Reviews
Great for language learning
I got this app to help with listening to audio files for a Chinese language class I’m taking. I wanted to be able to easily repeat certain sections and the built-in audio player on iOS is terrible for this.
This app does everything I wanted and more. You can place as many bookmarks on an audio file as you want and quickly jump back and forth between them. It’s also very consistent in how it labels a time stamp, unlike the iOS player which sometimes shows you a positive number (e.g. you’re 1 minute into the file) and sometimes negative (e.g. you’re 10 minutes from the end). The timeline also just gets visibly longer for longer files, so if you’re listening to a 30 minute file and you have to go back 30 seconds, it is as easy to scrub to 30 seconds back as it would be for a 3 minute file.
The only downside is that your audio files have to be in a playlist in the Music app, which turned out to be tricky for me as I had the files saved in the Files app, and neither Audiopo NOR the Apple Music app can interface with the Files app. So I needed to transfer the audio files to my Mac, then put them in Music/iTunes, then wait for the playlist to sync to my iPad. It was a bit of a pain. But worth it.
Essential tool for hardcore memorization
I’ve tried a number of tools in the App Store for doing memorization of a monologue parentheses more than 15 minutes of individual dialogue). This app is by far the most efficient and effective one to use. I did purchase so that my files would be loaded all together and it would remember my place. I found that worth a few bucks.
The ability to add placeholders and move between and easily and loop small sections or large sections continuously makes it very efficient to memorize. This app has been position as a music memorization in training app, for which is also very effective. But I have found it equally effective and ideally suited for doing narrative memorization as well.
The app could use a little bit more in the how to use it category, but the small icons are simple enough to figure out what they mean and once you push the buttons enough times you know their function. It would be helpful if there were a locked mode where The buttons are larger and all you were doing who is moving between them rather than seeing most of the screen real estate go to the overall view of the final in the placeholders.
Great for capturing notes
...in talks or lectures where I need go back to pick up on more details for the notes I’m taking. It’s very easy to find any timing spots I marked in my notes to hear again. I also like the feature that speeds up the voice - it’s a great time saver. The yellow arrows are also a great feature for going back to key points. If they ever add just one or more colors to these arrows - that would be great for highlighting the most important points. But the app is great for how I use it.
