I upgraded a while back on my 2018 MBP to Catalina and have been sad that I lost Backdrop. For whatever reason I thought it was just a casualty of the upgrade. Finally upgraded to Big Sur today and decided to go on a hunt. And here is my old friend. It's simple, but when I just want a bare bones color or image back behind, so I don't get distracted by the mess I call a desktop, I am happy for Backdrop. I've been using it for over a dozen years (seems like a hundred). Sometimes the simple apps are the ones I appreciate the most.

Great, But a couple a things I must mention, First, there needs to be a least a "simple" little manual for this app, and second, I cannot figure out how to get it to dsplay more than one backdrop at a time, on any one single screen/space… If anyone knows how to do that, I would like to know, exp. Like being able to display a whole folder a photos at once cause as of now, Backdrop will only let me choose one image at a time for a backdrop. 😕

What this app does should be a built-in feature of macOS, but since it’s not, I'm grateful for this helpful app. It does exactly what the name of the app says: Gives you a clean “Desktop” or background image view against which you can open other apps/windows without the clutter. I use it at least a couple times a week for screenshots or screensharing.

Any time I need to focus on just one app, or need a bit of privacy in a public place, or need to darken my screen quickly, Backdrop is there. It’s a small but indispensable tool. I’m not sure when I first downloaded it, but I know it was 2008 at the latest. I really appreciate the developer keeping it up to date for all these years.
