The New Bumble BFF?

I regret jumping the gun and quickly migrating over from Bumble BFF. I liked the profile page a little better off the bat, but hate that filtering for friend matching is gone. Being able to filter by age, distance, and language was important to what I’m looking for in friends. I don’t have the time or patience to scroll through and do my own “filtering”. It’s also weird that I can make groups, don’t get a warning with how complex these groups are what with the different chats, and there is no way to find other groups. The notifications are already annoying or broken too; one of my previous matches also migrated and is the only person in my chat tab. So why is it that in the span of 30mins I’ve received 3 push notifications *while in the app* encouraging me to open the app because someone said hi? Having come from a full-fledged app, I am not interested in a project with less features than the one I was previously using.

I absolutely hate the way the filters do absolutely nothing. Why on earth am I seeing 19 and 20 year olds when that’s so far out of the age range I set?? Why have the filters if they don’t do a blessed thing? Then the distance filter: instead of being in actual miles, it’s “close,” “nearby,” “far,” “wherever.” How are we supposed to know the app’s interpretation of these words and how they compare to what we consider close or nearby? It doesn’t matter though because I’m still getting people from 3+ hours away regardless of the setting. I get shown more people one hour away than I do from the actual city I live in (and it’s a major city). Why even have filters?? Oh, and I just realized that all the people I’ve blocked still show up in my feed. Wtaf?And before the developers insult my intelligence in a reply, yes, I’m sure the filter settings are saved. I’m sure the location on my profile they should be basing the distance off of is correct. Yes, I have updated to the most recent version of the app. Also, while I think the group feature on this app has more potential than the last, it is extremely chaotic and hard to navigate. Also, the only way I’ve been able to find groups is if the people in my feed are in them and I click on them through there.

Bring back the preferences

Someone failed at this revamp. There seems to be no algorithm, which makes finding true friendships difficult. I am all about meeting people that can broaden my thinking and do not gravitate towards people who fit in my exact demographic and thought patterns, but....... getting rid of most preferences was a bad idea. People go through different phases of life and that has nothing to do with age (one of two filters that still exist). The only other one is distance. Their new distance is a straight line from 1 mile to 50+ miles and no number references in between. You just have to guesstimate where your dot is on the line. I haven't been interested in most people they send me because they are not in my same town and not in the same phase of life I am. I will reiterate, age does not determine if you want to make married couple friends, have chill nights in, or party all night long. That's ageists to think it does. I do appreciate them taking away the dating swipe feature and adding a group option. I wouldn't know how to use the group option because the algorithm is as far off. I hope they update it to help make true lasting friendships, not just giving you options based on someone's age and where they are on a distance line lacking numbers.

Unnecessary changes

I really hate the new format of the app. Previously, I was able to find people who spoke certain languages or adjust the filters better to my needs. Now I can’t do that. All I can do is select the age and location. I feel like I was getting better profile suggestions before, now it all feels very random. Another big change that I absolutely dislike is that you do not see full bio of the person anymore unless you intentionally click and check their profile. I don’t have time to click into every single profile and go back to the main page to be able to see the next person. Now you have to keep on doing this back and forth. Sliding up and down to read someone’s profile and left/right to move on to the next person was soooo much more convenient. It actually felt more intentional because if you swiped left on the person you knew they will disappear from your suggestions so it made me want to read their profile throughly before making a decision. Aside from all the unnecessary paid content the app was great the way how it was and someone for some reason decided to change it and so far this is not working. If there is ever any positive updates I will change my rating but for now I almost don’t have the desire to use the app anymore.
