Blackboard by Boogie Board 4+

I’m a big fan of Kent Displays’ Boogie Blackboard products and the new Carbon Copy pen, which works wonderfully. The app in its current state is relatively bug-free and functional at a baseline (e.g. minimum viable product) level, but it has much more potential and I hope to be able to award more stars and update my review when more features are implemented.

Commentary of some features:

-App decently takes picture scans of board and inverts colors to make for legible scans. The edge detection could be better, but the feature desperately needed is side edge move when cropping, rather than just corner moving.

-Carbon Copy sync with the camera pen works great with nearly perfect recording of strokes.

-File management is useful folders, color tags, and auto naming by date, but a feature missing here is iCloud sync, as the files seem to be only local. What I ideally want to do is have the CarbonCopy pen synced with the phone, but be able to edit the files on an iPad and Apple Pencil later, but not having the files synced and the pen only able to paired to one device at a time doesn’t make this a streamlined workflow as it should be.

I was originally only going to give a 3-star review, but I’ve given it 4 stars given the utility and in good faith that the app continues to be developed 🤞

Amazing app and it works really well and I haven’t had any issues with it but my biggest complaints with this app is that it doesn’t automatically scan the blackboard, you have to drag a handles until the frame lines up with the bezels on the screen then you can scan it and also there’s no way to show scans in a folder you have to manually go to the folder tab and then look through a folder to find specific docs. If you could just sort and show all scans by a folder or change the chronological sorting rather than staying on the main screen that says “no documents” and having to switch to another tab that would be very nice. Other than that it’s a great app that deserves five stars but gets docked 1 star for those 2 reasons.

I enjoy this app a lot, but I can't reliably use it the way I want to without it syncing to some kind of cloud storage. If anything happens to this phone, all my important notes are gone. If they could add that function, this could become a central app in my routine.
