Description

Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead is a turn-based survival game set in a post-apocalyptic world. Struggle to survive in a harsh, persistent, procedurally generated world. Scavenge the remnants of a dead civilization for food, equipment, or, if you are lucky, a vehicle with a full tank of gas to get you the hell out of Dodge. Fight to defeat or escape from a wide variety of powerful monstrosities, from zombies to giant insects to killer robots and things far stranger and deadlier, and against the others like yourself, that want what you have…

Greg Langmead ,

Got me to start learning the game

This is a good-faith effort to port a keyboard-focused game to iOS with or without a keyboard. It inspired me to learn the game, knowing there is a supported app. There are few deep roguelikes on the platform so it’s very welcome.

One issue on iPhone is that vertical scrollbars (e.g. when examining an object with ‘e’ or in ‘V’ mode) are apparently scrolled on PC with page up and page down. Could there be buttons for those? It may be tough to get right because in ‘e’ mode the text is under the d-pad and so the user may want to hide the overlay — but then how will we tap new page up/down buttons that live in the overlay??

Thank you for your review. I'll keep our conversation from support system here for others to be able to read the answers.

Take a look at the video, it solves your problem: https://cdda.notion.site/Scrolling-fa9e17a378cf400b9385fa1fc3c71477

That gesture works when the list on the left is full height, like after doing ‘V' then ‘e’ to pick an item. But if I directly type 'e’ in the environment I get a less tall scrolling panel like in my screenshot and the gesture does not work. In that menu page up/down buttons scroll items list, and < / > buttons scroll description.

Also you can use Interact -> Descend/ascend buttons, since they're < / > essentially. For your convenience you can tap'n'hold Interact menu button, so submenu won't close after you tap any button inside menu. In general, those 2 approaches are applicable to all the menus: tap'n'hold to keep menu open, tap button for an effect that is called by typing a first symbol of a button text in current context. For example, tapping "Inventory -> W Wear" from the main screen results in opening "wear" menu, but if you tap the same button from the overmap screen, pointing to some tile you're not currently in, the route to that place will be made, and by tapping same button again you will be prompted whether you want to move to that point.

It breaks after a while

When you play the game for a while on PC, you want to get it on mobile, right? That was my thought. This developer ported the game and made it cost money for the same product. Okay then. I paid the money and got what I paid for! The game is mostly untouched and decently optimized for mobile (not as much as the official version though.) and surprisingly even moddable through the files despite Apple’s restrictions. Then things went downhill. One day I opened the app and it had started on some odd menu, and then things went south. J started the game and lo’ and behold, my menu was frozen! I couldn’t access my save files through the game so I had to pick through the files to get my saves backed up. When I re-opened the app, brushing it off as a small bug (not a fresh install), it didn’t display anything at all! I honestly believe that this is just a poorly emulated version (NOT EVEN A PROPER PORT) of a game that already HAS a mobile port to go off of…

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your review. Frankly, I tried playing 2 CDDA versions on Android and didn't manage how to deal with all the stuff. Maybe I just missed something, but that's another story. If you have any issues, please create an issue here https://apollov.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1 , where screenshots and videos could be attached. I will try to reproduce and fix your issue :)

An actual Freerunner ,

Great Port

Lots of accessibility features and a decent amount of mods and tilesets. It runs without fine even with lots of entities in the world, and even has additional content built over the core CDDA.

For some reason the game sound doesn't work though, the soundpacks help a lot when it comes to immersion and it's not there. Also for the devs, when you update the version can you please try to keep it on the same app or find a way to completely transfer settings and keybindings? It's a drag to redo all of that because the game is unplayable without adjusting those.

Don't get me twisted though, great work!

(Also if you're reading this and have never played this game, prepare for a stupidly deep roguelike. Where even how you put your clothes on matters)

Developer Response ,

Thank you for your review. The reason why 2 separate versions exist is that the old one is pretty stable, and the new one is not. Also not all the players would welcome new changes (especially the pockets system). So both versions exist.
At the same time, since file sharing is enabled, you can simply copy all the contents of 0.E directory and put in into 0.F and bang — all your saves, settings, mods, sound and tile sets are there. No need to go through the interfaces — it's all in files ;)
