Description

CBT-i Coach is for people who are engaged in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia with a health provider, or who have experienced symptoms of insomnia and would like to improve their sleep habits. The app will guide you through the process of learning about sleep, developing positive sleep routines, and improving your sleep environment. It provides a structured program that teaches strategies proven to improve sleep and help alleviate symptoms of insomnia.

CBT-i Coach is intended to augment face-to-face care with a healthcare professional. It can be used on its own, but it is not intended to replace therapy for those who need it.

CBT-i Coach is based on the therapy manual, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia in Veterans, by Rachel Manber, Ph.D., Leah Friedman, Ph.D., Colleen Carney, Ph.D., Jack Edinger, Ph.D., Dana Epstein, Ph.D., Patricia Haynes, Ph.D., Wilfred Pigeon, Ph.D. and Allison Siebern, Ph.D. CBT-i has been shown to be efficacious for insomnia for both Veterans and civilians.

CBT-i Coach was a collaborative effort between VA’s National Center for PTSD, Stanford School of Medicine, and DoD’s National Center for Telehealth and Technology.

Sleep tracking portion needs major overhaul

I’ve been using this for several months on my own as I’m not affiliated with the VA. I can not set the sleep prescription and when I try it has me waking and going to sleep at 12 am. On the home page I try to set the sleep prescription and am unable as I am told my sleep percentages are too low for the past week and I need to see a provider. We’re told not to look at the time we wake, but this is required for the tracking (how long were you awake). I can only see one week of data on the graph and so am unable to track longer periods of time to show patterns to the person who is trying to help me with sleep. So, the major functions of your ap are flawed.

Being a mental health professional, I find the helps to be a very nice addition, but know that some of them aren’t appropriate for chronic insomnia. Sadly, I’m unable to find a compatible program that would allow we to download/view the sleep tracker information to share with a provider.

This ap needs major work, but is the best free one I’ve found to be available.

Decent app

This app was recommended to me for sleep apnea. The app seems pretty straightforward on the surface, but the layout could be better.

One feature that I highly desire is being able to access/input data using any device. That feature seems to be missing. Since I use multiple devices the data stays with the device the data was input to the end result being a mish mash of data on multiple devices. A simple user name/password and account would solve(?) this issue and would allow data to be compiled and provider access.

I'm too new to using this app to give it an accurate assessment, but since I am made to, a neutral rating. I will update in the future.

Good App

A free application with no ads! Yay for that! On a basic level it’s a really great application, providing opportunities to look at sleep and factors surrounding sleep differently. With a new view comes the chance to make changes to improve sleep and sleep satisfaction. I use this in conjunction with another app that helps track my sleep, which helps give me some of the info needed for my sleep diary. I have not started using several of the tools offered, but enjoy the sleep diary and graphs. I recommend this application to others. Thank you to the VA for making this widely available.

* Note to developer: Bug fix needed on the graphs. The numbers along the graph axis are not match up with the information put in the sleep diary. Ex. Went to bed at 0200h, but matching the data point to the left axis looks like I actually went to bed at 0300h. Otherwise graph points seem accurate relative to one another.
