Description

ChatSecure is a free and open source messaging app that features OTR encryption over XMPP. You can connect to an existing Google account, create new accounts on public XMPP servers, or even connect to your own server for extra security.

Unlike other apps that keep you stuck in their walled garden, ChatSecure is fully interoperable with other clients that support OTR and XMPP, such as Adium, Jitsi, and more.

ChatSecure only uses well-known open source cryptographic libraries to keep your conversations private. Other apps may make claims about 'military grade' security but, without publicly auditable source code and verifiable end-to-end encryption, you cannot be truly safe.

* XMPP with TLS certificate pinning.
* OTR for verifiable end-to-end encryption and forward secrecy.
* OMEMO for a mobile-friendly alternative to OTR.
* SQLCipher to locally encrypt conversation logs.
* Free and Open Source: https://github.com/chatsecure/chatsecure-ios

Nevermind Signal, this is the real deal

Although signal has good encryption technology, it doesn’t have much technology for anonymize yourself behind it like chat secures XXMP + Omemo technology. The encryption algorithms in this app are just as strong if not stronger than Signals, and it DOES not require a phone number like signal. Both are great depending on your use case, but I believe chat secure is better if you want to stay safe from the NSA or from prying eyes. Its great for reporters, high security situations/people, system admins who need to protect their assets or identities from hackers or just anyone in general who wants to stay safer and more anonymous on the internet. In a day where mass surveillance is a real thing, this app is important for privacy of good honest people. This app is simple to use, very stable, and developed by well respected developers. It is not full of features, like telegram, but that is because it’s focus is on security and anonymity. Less code=less flaws. So if that’s what you are looking for, go ahead and ditch the signal app, and the spy driven wikr app, and the crap security telegram app, and start using this well developed, hardened chat app that implements algorithms and technologies much older and more refined/tested than the signal app. Thanks for chat secure!

Good try but...

Ghostiery and similar programs have been deliberately barred by Apple - which loves to play both sides of the datatheft crisis, claiming (and refusing to discuss taken) that it has really good encryption, while not allowing (as required under the Microsoft Internet Explorer decision) the ability to run with Tor or a full version of Firefox, while erasing its own browser from the system.
While Apple execs know there are companies that will crack open an i-phone for anyone with the $$s, it plays the We are So Honest game by announcing it will not do the job requested by ignorant police organizations.
So, here’s a program that claims not to collect anything much, and only gives what’s collected to folks who say real nice that they won’t let things escape, telling you to use a leaky product on an iPhone using a program unavailable because it doesn’t want Real Firefox or Tor available.
So claims of security just cannot be true.
I wish I were wrong about this, but what we need is some way to force Apple into allowing full PGP, if not RSA to run on its hand-held platforms.
