Chicago Works app will allow you to make service requests to 311 and track issues as they are addressed. Simply put, you can watch your tax-dollars work for you. Chicago Works is a mobile application developed by 2pensmedia and Ald. Ameya Pawar. The first version of the app came out while Ameya ran for alderman. Chicago Works was the first service request app developed in Chicago. After the election, 2pensmedia and Ameya worked with the Mayor’s office and fellow alderman to develop a more robust app that plugs into the Open311 framework.

super buggy and barely useable
My first report was of a pothole and worked fine. The second report, of a traffic light, has permanently broken the app. It gives a useless error like “Can’t submit, refresh and try again”. But there is no refresh button! I tried closing the app and killing it (swipe up) to no avail. Every time I open it it auto loads my last information. But I can’t edit or delete it so keep getting the same error. Which means the app is stuck permanently. I waited a couple of weeks in case it was a problem on their server. Today, the app won’t go beyond the “loading” message. Great idea for an app that I would have gladly paid for. I hope someone else makes a better version.
I used the app to request that the alley pest control treatment be updated. I appreciated the fact that there is a section where you can clarify/specify the exact service that you are requesting. I received text messages that my request had been received and that the request had been completed with a ten day turnaround, start to finish. I know of other residents that have found satisfaction using the app to report potholes. This is a very convenient way to communicate City service requests and documented proof that the City is responsive to its residents. Great app, great service.
Installed this app when it first came out and it didn’t work - I deleted it. I saw an ad for it in July of 2019 in a bus shelter so I figured I’d try again since it was a while ago and surely it works now. WRONG! I went through the trouble of typing up a description of an issue I was trying to report and went to submit and there were errors. Plus it says I’m in the 45th ward but I’m in the 39th. What an embarrassment- we are a world class city and we can’t even get this right. Or is this just a game? Maybe they want us to think they care about residents but really don’t actually give a rip!
