Cindex offers everything you need to produce the finest indexes in virtually any format. Effortlessly and unobtrusively, Cindex handles all the time-consuming steps, such as sorting entries, comprehensively checking for errors, and formatting entries, freeing you to concentrate on the facts and ideas developed in the text.
ADDING AND EDITING ENTRIES
Speed the entry of data with auto-completion of entries, automatic splitting of headings for name indexes, instant recall of stored words and phrases, duplication of previous entries, flipping of headings, and more. Cindex detects errors on-the-fly, and displays entries in context as you form them, greatly reducing editing time.
LANGUAGE AND SCRIPT SUPPORT
Full Unicode support enables you to work with multiple languages and scripts and to check spelling in multiple languages.
ALPHABETIZING AND SORTING
As you make entries they are instantly placed in alphabetical or page number order, according to your preferred rules (letter-by-letter, word-by-word, etc.) and language conventions.
COMPREHENSIVE INDEX CHECKS
Cindex provides powerful checks for erroneous punctuation, for inconsistencies in headings, for orphaned subheadings, and many other potential errors. It will identify blind or circular cross-references and references of the wrong type. Cindex identifies duplicate page references and overlapping ranges, and excessive numbers of undifferentiated page references.
VERSATILE FORMATTING
The finished index may be laid out in indented or run-in style, or a variant style. You can specify indents for subheadings and runover lines, spacing between entries, etc. You can specify styles to be applied automatically to page references and cross-references.
EXPORT DOCUMENTS FOR TYPESETTING
Cindex will export indexes as fully marked-up documents in multiple formats, including RTF, XML, and SGML.
