Clay Lab is absolutely essential for keeping records of ceramic pieces!! LOVE it for keeping photos, notes, glazes, etc on each piece. I do lots of experimenting with glazes & usually prefer test pieces to test tiles & can easily keep track of which clay, glazes, UGs, firing schedules, etc. Improvements suggestions: Would like to be able to record more than one inside & outside glaze on each piece w/out having to type into notes. Would like to customize categories “about this piece” bc I would like to easily record: glaze firing schedules & item’s price..but don’t care to record size or weight or form.. Also additional “Current Stage” categories could include “Priced” or “For Sale” & “Sold” categories. It would also be great to be able to search app for a specific glaze & be able to see all works w that glaze. Lastly - would be good to be able to delete the glaze names which come already installed....but really..This app is great!

WELL DONE!!

I am relatively new to ceramics and was introduced to the craft by a few friends who are teachers and students of various experience levels! The ceramics community has welcomed me with open arms and in their open and kind nature, they have shared a range of tricks, tips, stories of success and disappointments and lessons learned! One of the greatest things shared in terms of keeping track of my progress has been ClayLab! The app is super intuitive and easy to use. I feel it did a wonderful job of guiding me step by step and keeping track of my ceramic process. What's even better is that with every update the app keeps getting better and better!!I feel that the developer has really listened to concerns or feedback on what users would like to see in the future or areas that can use improvements or clarity and addressed them in a professional and productive way by making beneficial updates to the app!I can honestly say that this developer must be a dedicated ceramicist (is that a word) that not only cares about the craft but cares for the ceramics community and gives that care back to us by creating a top notch app that helps us to track our progress no matter what stage of our experience!AAAAANNNDDDDD....The developer just released the Pro version and WOWWWW! I really love it! I love how easy it is to transfer my data (although I hope there will be a option to transfer a CSV file in the future) but the Pro version is amazing and honestly helped me to step up my ceramics game!! Hahah! So the Pro version makes me feel like a Pro myself!!Thanks ClayLab!! Keep up the great work!!
Developer Response
WOW.We don't know what to say 🥹 - thanks so much for taking the time to write such a detailed review and share your story! We love hearing you feel like Pro using the Pro version (thank you for your support) and promise we'll do our very best to make it even better! As for being able to export your data into a CSV file, that's on our roadmap and should be available within the next month or two, along with some new features!And.......I believe ceramist is indeed a word! Thank YOU.
I love this app

This is one of my most used apps. Before, I would glaze my work and write down on sticky notes and take photos of it and my glazed piece. Then I discovered ClayLab. Here you can record the glazes, have a list of your glazes and how it was glazed and be able to search your stuff by the glaze! By the clay body! By technique! The app just keeps getting better. The new update with the archive feature is helpful. I want to record what I make even if I scrap it to be able to view my progress over time.I was able to meet the creators at NCECA 2026 and I’m very much looking forward to the new ideas and updates coming.I am hoping eventually there will be a cool feature like Spotify’s yearly recap deal but with pottery in the app - like “in 2026 you make 236 mugs and glazed 176 of them!” Etc.
Developer Response
HOLY MOLY - thank you so much for writing such a detailed review - you made our day!!As for the 'year in review' feature I love the idea and I already added it to my backlog of brand new features to implement in 2026!Thank you so much again for the support! ❤️🙏
Great… BUT 2 huge flaws
Miss Nolastname
I love everything about this app BUT am never going to use it again. I put a few projects in, and was excited to see that the developers had thought of just about everything. The first big oversight I found was the inability to list more than one glaze on the inside or outside. Many of us layer glazes, so I had to create a fake glaze called “multiple - see notes” and then write it all out. Which sort of defeats the value of a list of my glazes. So that’s definitely a problem. Ideally, there would be the ability to add additional glazes, and have it easy to see which glaze was used first, and which was layered on top (since order of glazes matters). But the even bigger flaw, and the reason I will not continue to use the app is that there does not seem to be any way to export the information. The reason for a glaze journal is the ability to look back later and have that documentation … what did I do here? Which clay body was this? What glaze combo was this? So if the app is discontinued, or I change phones and don’t have access, or fail to back up my phone properly, I would be SCREWED. There needs to be some way to save these records, upload them to the cloud as PDFs (like a recipe) or CSV files, or something. Having no way to get this information out of the app is just waaaaaay too big a risk for anyone who wants to be able to keep their efforts well documented. And future proof. Back to the notebook for me. At least I can upload a photo of those pages as a backup.
Developer Response
Thanks so much for taking the time to write this review, I really appreciate the feedback and I'm looking into ways to export/sync/back up the data in the cloud. Also - while i know this doesn't solve the main problem with the app - in the new release coming next month you will be able to use multiple layers glazes. Thanks again!
New in this release:

- Unsuccessful pieces can now be archived to tidy up the workspace without the need to delete any useful record.
