Does exactly as it says

Cloud Mounter does exactly as it says: mounts cloud storage as a local drive.

OneDrive is fantastic if you have an Office subscription, but keeping files synced chews up valuable SSD space. By moving files to a cloud-only folder, I get to use the 1TB of OneDrive and keep my computer relatively free.

One thing to keep in mind: files are kept in a temporary cache whilst they are being uploaded. I didn’t know this. All I saw was the available storage plummit when I dropped a huge directory from an external drive to the cloud drive. Now I know this, I’m scheduling my dumps a bit more sanely.

Fantastic application, well worth the money.

Dear developers: It would be great if there was a monitor utility so I could see the files being transferred and how that is progressing, and see the cache usage. Yes, I know that I can get all of that from the menu, but I’d like to see a progress bar as to how the transfer is going when I do the huge data dumps.

Thank you for your feedback and your thorough commentaries. I will pass it to our developers, so they will consider adding a more detailed progress bar in future updates of the app.

Just wish there was a UI for tracking uploads

Love being able to mount my OneDrive in the Finder, as I keep a lot of data there that isn’t on my SSD. The UI integrates seamessly with the Finder, and is simple and self-explanatory.

The one thing sorely missing is the ability to monitor your uploads. The Menu Bar dropdown says when there’s a transfer going, and how many files remain, and the Finder integration shows an icon indicating the upload of a file in progress, but NOWHERE is is possible to see how far along the transfer is. If you’re uploading a 250MB file, it’s impossible to tell if you’re 5MB or 200MB in, and as such, it’s impossible to even guess how much longer the transfer will taken. This is a major oversight on the part of the developer.

Fix this problem, my review becomes 5 stars. (Having said that, I’m using the free version and if I ever needed the paid features, I’d probably just get by with HTTPS and FTP transfers, since the price is higher than I’d like — especially for subscription ware.)

Developer Response ,

Thank you for posting your feedback. I would like to inform you that the "progress bar" feature will be added in further updates of CloudMounter software.

A Variety of Reasons

There are a variety of issues with user input concurrency that locks the application up and you need to use Activity Viewer to kill it. That’s not the issue.

The failures in file transfer when you drag and drop a folder to one of the cloud storage provider’s volume on your desktop is not the issue. The failure of the software to not retry automatically on failed copies is not the issue. The fact that the copy of the folder *looks* like it actually copied when over 800 files failed to copy is not the issue.

The cost is quite frankly astronomical at $70 for a utility that others offer for free. That’s not the issue.

The software will periodically interrupt your work popping up a“Buy me” pane that is front and center overriding everything … and is set on the monthly subscription and a default button of “Buy”. The danger here is that should you be typing along and happen to press the return key on the keyboard just when the nag-window shows up, you may end up buying it via subscription of $20+ per month. That’s the issue.

I do NOT recommend this software for a variety of reasons.

Developer Response ,

We are very sorry that you had a negative experience with CloudMounter. We are working to improve the file transferring process in future updates of the software. We are planning to add logging that will show detailed information about file transfer. Regarding the "Buy" button, it is impossible to buy CloudMounter with one click; it requires confirmation. Also, the subscription comes with a free 7-day trial period during which you can cancel it, and you won't be charged.
