Read your own comics free across iPhone, iPad and Mac with optional iCloud sync. Plus adds website imports, search and reading tools. One purchase, no subscription.
Bring your own comics to iPhone and iPad.
ComicReader reads PDF, CBZ/ZIP and classic CBR/RAR files. Build a library, enjoy imported comics offline and keep your place as you read. Reading, ordinary imports, browsing, current-page text recognition and optional iCloud sync are free.
READ FOR FREE
• Import supported files with the system file picker, Finder/iTunes File Sharing, the local-network uploader or WebDAV.
• Organize comics into collections and sort them by name, date or reading status.
• Zoom into artwork and keep each library comic's read status and current page.
• Recognize text on the current page on your device, or use embedded PDF text when available. Select, copy and share the result. Recognition quality varies with language, scan quality and lettering.
MADE FOR IPHONE DUO
Open the screen for more artwork, then continue on the outer display. Your page and relative zoom stay with you as the display changes. Pages, covers and controls adapt around the active fold. Duo support is free.
OPTIONAL ICLOUD SYNC
Choose whether to sync library comic files, read status and current page across iPhone, iPad and Mac. Sync stays off until you turn it on and uses your personal iCloud Drive storage. Sufficient storage and an internet connection are required.
OPEN AND BROWSE ON YOUR TERMS
Visit websites in ComicReader, save shortcuts, keep a normal website session between visits or use a separate private session. Browsing and website-data controls are free. Websites must provide supported downloadable files; sign-in, availability and downloads depend on each site. ComicReader includes no comic catalog, bundled comics or DRM removal.
On Mac, open a PDF, CBZ/ZIP or classic CBR/RAR file directly from Finder without importing it. Choose Add to Library when you want a library copy with saved progress and optional iCloud sync.
COMICREADER PLUS — ONE OPTIONAL PURCHASE
Plus adds tools for readers with larger libraries:
• Website Imports download supported files into a chosen collection with validation, duplicate detection and a visible queue. Keep ComicReader open until imports finish.
• Comic Search & Quotes builds a persistent text index for the current library comic, searches indexed pages and saves editable quotes linked to their source page.
• Reading Lists & Smart Queues arrange a reading order without moving files and gather Continue Reading, Unread and Read Again.
• Named Page Bookmarks return to memorable pages.
• Image Filters provide Clear Ink, Grayscale and Warm Paper display options without changing the original file.
ComicReader Plus is one non-consumable purchase, not a subscription. The App Store shows your local price before purchase. Restore Purchases is available on iPhone, iPad and Mac with the same Apple Account. Existing Plus owners keep access to the current Plus tools.
Search covers the current library comic, not the whole library. Search indexes, quotes, lists and bookmarks stay on each device and are not included in iCloud sync. Saved quotes remain readable and shareable if Plus is no longer active.
ComicReader is based on ComicFlow and is open source under GPL v3. Bring your own comics; screenshot sample comics are not included.
The app works great on ios16 but does not group comics by series, nor allow manual grouping. Other minor features that would help is a progress indicator, I read half a comic and it still says new on it, in the list. No page count progress bar would be more helpful if it showed current/total pages instead of dots.
Developer Response
Thank you for the detailed suggestions. The current reader saves a library comic’s reading status and exact page when you leave it. Free collections group comics using folders directly inside the library; they do not automatically infer series from filenames. For a manual reading order across folders, Plus now includes reading lists and Continue Reading, Unread and Read Again queues, with one optional purchase and no subscription. Your request for a clearer current/total page indicator is still useful feedback; I do not want to imply that it has been added.
Used to work … Not anymore

This new “update” opens to a blank inventory, I don’t know the secret of seeing my books, but I’m already tired of trying and it’s only been two days.
Developer Response
Sorry the library let you down. ComicReader has had several updates since this report. We have rechecked the current import and library paths: imported books remain visible after relaunch, direct collection folders survive rescanning, and the exact reading page is restored. If version 1.6 or later still opens to a blank library on your device, please contact App Support with your device model, iOS version, import method and iCloud setting so I can look into the remaining cause.
Used to work not anymore

Was my favorite reader before name change. Now all comics disappear. And blank screen.
Developer Response
Sorry about the blank library, and for the earlier reply being too vague. Recent checks of the current reader confirm that imported books remain visible after a full relaunch and that direct collection folders survive repeated library scans. Saved reading position is also retained. If you still see a blank library in version 1.6 or later, please contact App Support with your device, iOS version, import method and whether iCloud sync is enabled so I can investigate your case.
Garbage
SuitablyAmused
Every time I tried to upload something both the source app and this app crashed. I tried from Dropbox and Google Drive. Avoid.
Developer Response
Sorry the import failed, and for the earlier reply being unspecific. The old Add Files path has been replaced with the system Files picker, and a confirmed crash in that old path was removed. In version 1.6 or later, open Settings > Add Files and select a supported PDF, CBZ/ZIP or classic CBR/RAR file from an enabled Files provider. Provider-specific failures can still need investigation: if Dropbox or Google Drive continues to fail, please contact App Support with your device, iOS version, file format and exact steps.
Refreshed App Store information and dedicated ComicReader privacy and support links.
Enjoy your comics on iPhone Duo, iPad and Mac, with free web browsing and optional iCloud sync. Plus remains one optional purchase, with no subscription.
