Tap when you leave. Tap when you arrive. That is the whole mechanic. No location tracking, no motion sensors, no background permissions of any kind. Commuted asks for nothing and still knows what your week cost.

A forty five minute drive each way is an hour and a half a day. At almost any value you put on your own time, that dwarfs what the car costs. So Commuted leads with the hours and keeps the money in a smaller line underneath. The number that should worry you is the one you cannot get back.
AN HONEST NUMBER FOR THE CAR
Most commute apps show you fuel. Fuel is roughly a fifth of what a car costs per mile. Commuted uses the IRS standard mileage rate, which covers fuel, depreciation, insurance, maintenance and tires, and shows the fuel portion separately so you can see which part you actually feel at the pump. Set your own rate instead if you are outside the US or you know your own cost per mile.
