coolAltitude: Pilot Tools
Cold corrections & de-icing
$7.99 · In‑App Purchases · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
A clear workspace for cold-temperature altitude corrections, approach setup and de-icing. Explore the profile, FMS-style entry and holdover timer in Light or Dark.
coolAltitude brings cold-temperature altitude corrections, approach profiles and de-icing tools into one focused workspace for pilots.
ALTITUDE CORRECTIONS
Enter the temperature and approach data, compare entered and corrected altitudes, and see the result in a clear approach profile. Select the correction method and rounding option for your workflow. DME shift helps put distance references in context.
APPROACH SETUP
Use the FMS-style interface to work with airport, runway and approach data. A structured display and dedicated keys keep the setup readable alongside the profile.
DE-ICING AND HOLDOVER TIME
Select the applicable conditions, fluid type and concentration. Review the available holdover guidance and keep the countdown visible during your workflow.
WEATHER AND RUNWAY CONTEXT
Consult METAR, TAF and runway-condition information alongside your calculations. Online information depends on the availability of the connected services.
READABLE IN LIGHT AND DARK
Clear colour roles distinguish inputs, corrected values and shifted values. Light and Dark appearances support different lighting conditions, with restrained surfaces and readable controls.
Some features require an in-app subscription. Check the in-app purchase screen for the features included, subscription terms and current pricing.
Use current operational information and the procedures applicable to your aircraft and operation when assessing results.

New: TAF for the selected airport
• Tap the TAF label next to the approach name to see the latest TAF, with each change group (BECMG, TEMPO, FM, PROB) on its own line.
• Included with Save & Retrieve Approach Data, together with the METAR.
• The TAF is a forecast and is shown for reference only – unlike the METAR, it is never applied to the calculation.
• The last TAF stays available offline; an expired TAF is marked.
Snowfall intensity table
• The notes below the table now follow the FAA Holdover Time Guidelines, Winter 2026–2027, word for word.
• The last row now reads ≥3 ½ SM / ≥5600 m, as in the FAA table.
4.9 Oct 21
Corrected snowfall intensity estimate
The snowfall intensity shown next to DAY/NIGHT in the de-/anti-icing panel (estimated from the METAR visibility) now follows the visibility ranges of the FAA table exactly.
• Earlier versions applied each table row only up to its nominal visibility – for example the 800 m row up to 800 m instead of up to 1000 m. In some ranges the app therefore showed a lighter intensity than the FAA table, e.g. Moderate instead of Heavy at 500 m by day at -1 °C and below.
• Visibilities reported in statute miles are now matched to the statute-mile column of the table. Reports such as 1/4 SM, 1/2 SM, 3/4 SM and 1 1/2 SM were affected.
• Visibility reported as M1/4SM (less than 1/4 SM) is now recognized. Earlier versions showed no estimate for it.
• The FAA table in the app (snowflake button) was correct and is unchanged, as are all holdover times.
We recommend updating before winter operations.

• Minor UI and performance improvements
3.5 10/23/2025
Improved readability and minor enhancements for a better user experience.
3.4 01/22/2025
• Fixed an issue where the temperature display would reset to -5°C.
• Optimised for iOS 18 for smoother performance.
3.2 09/27/2024
coolAltitude has been completely reworked using the lates available technology. iPad versions now supports portrait and landscape orientations including split view over another app. Overall stability has been significantly improved. App now supports dark mode, which can be triggered regardless of the system settings to make night approaches more comfortable.
3.0 03/25/2024
New features added:
• RCAM table view
• Different temperature correction calculation methods:
o ICAO 8168 (current)
o 10% | 20% of HAT (or QNH source)
o 4% of HAT (or QNH source) on each 10°C of ISA DEV
o Table values with linear interpolation
• Option to use default rounding principles or to display precise values
The look & feel was freshened and some bugs from previous version corrected.
