I’ve been using another app to access Craigslist, but was excited to try out the official one. The app has the same no-frills approach as the website - sometimes simple is best, I suppose. Navigation was straightforward, searching and browsing listings is very simple and mirrors the website in many ways. However when you consider how Craigslist has shut down most mobile apps that connected to their service (anyone recall Padmapper?), how long they’ve taken to finally make their own app, and the plethora of fine examples out there to pick ideas from, it feels a bit anticlimactic to get an interface that is neither especially mobile friendly or even seems carefully constructed for smaller screens. Navigation is clunky, and digging into the settings even a little takes you to very plain pages full of text. While you can save searches, multi-location search doesn’t seem to be supported, and only email notifications are supported (really?!).
Lastly, I seemed to be running into some sort of connection error quite often. I had no such issue during the same time period with either the app I normally use for Craigslist or my mobile browser, so I’m not sure what was going on. Hopefully this will get cleared up soon.
Today in the news I read that Craigslist at last have an app for mobile devices. The News review wasn’t so encouraging and clear. So I decided to go and checked out, but before I download it I read all the others whom downloaded. Still it wasn’t so encouraging yet, and I read the bad reviews, the one star review, I wasn’t so much excited about it and I thought it would be like some apps who implement their app using the website control inside the app.
Even Craigslist description wasn’t so fancy nor clear. So at the end I decided to download it, and said what the heck it’s only 19MB, large at all.
So I played with it a little bit and I said WOW, it is way way way much better than their Stone Age website.
It is implemented in a very professional way and accurate way, the user interface is excellent. The search, edit, delete, create post is so easy and clear. Not to forget to mention all the old, old posts the was created under your email, long time ago shows up and you can repost and edit the again. All your posts you work on are in one place, you don’t have to search for them or go through your old emails to find them.
Though there is one or two minor bugs I found (which I’ll mention them later.
That’s it very good app from Craigslist. Thank you. Good job.
I downloaded the App because well, I’ve been a fan of Craigslist since I can remember! Not to mention it’s efficient when it comes to why we all visit the site... or at least I was expecting higher efficiency via the App. Unfortunately the app needs work. First, I’m not able to access “My Account” feature towards the bottom of the menu bar. This is important if I want to post an ad or manage my positing. I’m unable to interact with “Favorites” section to delete or update selections. Secondly, I can’t post an ad using the “+” button on the menu bar at the bottom either. Lastly, feedback feature is disabled.
As many other users have expressed, Craigslist must do a better job of monitoring SPAM postings for repeated or even invasive post that eat up the entire feed (especially from Dealers). Or allow us to flag post and provide selection options as to why we are flagging.
I used the app for a few months... mainly for job searches and miscellaneous purchases. The search for either jobs/for sale is not accurate and while I live near the ocean... it wants to account the ocean space in my search- which leaves me with limited search results. Meaning the radius dial needs to be changed to reflect specific regions or be able to select shaded area on a map.
Because the lack of accuracy and development I’ve decided to remove the app and rate it a 2 star... because it’s more troublesome to use than it is fun and resourceful as a tool.
